Clinton: Rev. Wright ‘Would Not Have Been My Pastor’

Breaking her silence on the controversy surrounding Barack Obama’s long-time pastor, Hillary Clinton said Tuesday that she would have left the congregation if her pastor behaved like Obama’s.

“He would not have been my pastor,” Clinton told reporters at a press conference in Greensburg, Pa.

“You know, we don’t have a choice when it comes to our relatives. We have a choice when it comes to our pastors and the churches we attend,” she said. “Everyone will have to decide these matters for themselves. They are obviously very personal matters … I think the choice would be clear for me.”

Though Obama has come under intense scrutiny for the anti-U.S. and racially charged sermons by Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., until now Clinton has declined to make a political point of it.

2. What a stupid irrelevant shrewish bitch she's turned into.

Complete nincompoopery - who fucking cares whether she'd have gone to a church with Wright as a pastor?

I don't give a goddamn. That decision pales in comparison to any number of the 100 billion things that actually DO matter.

It's sad - I eagerly and with great satisfaction voted for her for Senator, and was ready to vote for her for president. Until about two months ago.

6. They've damaged their credibility forever
I hope kneecapping Obama is worth the cost to them in the long run. More and more each day I realize it's about them, all about them, not this country. Not this war we're in, not the economy, not education, none of it matters, just their lust for power and control and position.

4. The Clinton's are actually more post racial than Hillary's opponent
The Clinton's have done much to promote a colorblind society but unfortunately Hillary's opponent lives and dies on racebaiting, even to the point of throwing his grandmother under the bus .

8. More sexism from the Hillary haters?
And at the same time, they claim to so "progressive" and enlightened,

9. No, no sexism involved. "Bitch" might be a sexist term,
but she's utterly shown herself to be unworthy.

And I say that with heavy heart - I have a great fondness for her, and was eagerly anticipating casting a presidential vote for a woman. But she's gone insane in the last month.

If you prefer to consider her insanity a sign of my sexism, then so be it. Live with whatever delusion you need.

Sarcasm or seriousness?

I don't know.

5. As usual she's a day late and a dollar short
The Wright thing is yesterday's news. Obama did a pretty good job of responding to it and it no longer has much impact. Not like, oh say, lying about being under sniper fire in Bosnia which has not yet been fully explored IMO.

7. Exactly...
...I don't personally feel that the Wright matter was of the same magnitude of a "Swift Boat Attack," but I agree completely that "Obama did a pretty good job of responding to it."

The Bosnia thing, on the other hand, pretty much falls under the category of "sniper fire that never happened."

11. Can you image Bill sending his wife and only child
into hostile territory because it was too dangerous for the president.

His only child into a combat zone with sniper bullets flying over head - did she think no one would catch that?

10. Soldiers' death papers is something she can Xerox.
In church she'd probably have to pay attention, or at least pretend to... but since she's demonizing Wright, she obviously wasn't actually paying attention.

14. Her pastor's cell is more "connected"
http://www.thenation.com/doc/20080331/ehrenreich

Clinton fell in with The Family in 1993, when she joined a Bible study group composed of wives of conservative leaders like Jack Kemp and James Baker. When she ascended to the Senate, she was promoted to what Sharlet calls the Family's "most elite cell," the weekly Senate Prayer Breakfast, which included, until his downfall, Virginia's notoriously racist Senator George Allen. This has not been a casual connection for Clinton. She has written of Doug Coe, The Family's publicity-averse leader, that he is "a unique presence in Washington: a genuinely loving spiritual mentor and guide to anyone, regardless of party or faith, who wants to deepen his or her relationship with God."

more on her here in Stephanie's excellent OP from Thu Mar-13-08:

15. There goes the black vote!
Her calculations are faltering. To dismiss what the pastor was trying to convey by merely dismissing him altogether by "leaving the church" and ignoring the underlying sentiments will win her no new fans within the African American community. However, she should get some hick votes. Good for her!

17. You also have a choice as to whether or not to vote for the Iraq War Resolution.
Explain that away.
