Clark's help is viewed as hint at a ticket
http://www.boston.com/news/politics/president/articles/2004/05/14/in_arkansas_kerry_assails_bush_on_health_care/

Esp. like this part of the story from Boston Globe:

Kerry, who usually says "no comment" when asked about a running mate, was a mite more open when an audience member asked if he would consider putting Clark on the ticket.

"Do you know this guy?" Kerry said to Clark, sitting on a stool a few feet away.

"No, but that's my cousin up there," Clark replied.

"Folks, I have huge respect for General Clark, I think all of you know that. We're becoming great friends in this process," Kerry said, before declining to answer the man's question.

4. They were friends before for years.

I always figured that Clark entered the race to help Kerry by changing the press focus at that time and to test the waters to see how well he handled the retail politics and campaigning on his own.

What confirmed it for me was Clark's decision NOT to campaign in Iowa at the same time that Kerry decided to concentrate on Iowa.

I saw your photo. You are beautiful!!!! You look just like I imagined. :hi:

Clark joined the race because Kerry wasn't doing well. Clark believed that only a candidate with military experience could challenge bush.

17. If Clark had caught on Kerry would have supported him just as much.
They knew it would come down to one of them because national security was numero uno with the American people. Clinton understood it perfectly.

28. Clark not running in Iowa is what screwed us. When you stop to consider..
that his team chose to run in NH against THREE native sons instead of IA where he would have had a fair shot at it, it really makes you wonder what was going on. I know that Gov. Vilsak was acting like and ass and was very negative about Clark running in IA. But the decision to diss IA is what killed Clark's campaign. IA chose Kerry to be the Anti-Dean. What if Clark had contested in IA? We will never know.

27. Clark said out of his own mouth that he entered the race because..
none of the other candidates were catching on (other than Dean). So, don't take my word for it. Take his. Because that is what he said.

7. got my fingers and toes crossed . . .
selecting Clark would be the smartest thing Kerry could do . . . BushCo has always wanted to run on their foreign policy record ("let's get them terrists!"), but that dream is rapidly fading with recent events . . . having Clark on the ticket would totally negate any claim BushCo might still have to foreign and military policy expertise (which ain't much) and force the campaign to domestic issue . . . which is our strong point and where BushCo is even weaker . . . we'd kill 'em on jobs, the economy, healthcare, Medicare and Social Security, even domestic security (I refuse to use the word "homeland") . . . great strategic move by Kerry if he does it . . .

8. I especially liked this part--
"Clark, who is a head shorter than Kerry, does not emit the kind of
magnetism that might upstage him, and Clark's unadorned speaking
style does not invite unfavorable comparisons with Kerry."

Not to be critical. Just saying Clark does not draw attention
to Kerry's weak spots.

I'd love to see this ticket. Just love it.

9. Fascinating.
I had seen Ted Kennedy on c-span a few weeks ago and he made a point (said it 3x) of saying that the VP choice shouldn't be someone who will "overshadow" Kerry. At the time I considered his statements ominous b/c I think Clark overshadows everyone, but fortunately(?) not everyone agrees with me! :7

13. I like the general alot as well.
But he isn't a great public speaker, and he isn't
a professional politician. He would need Kerry as
much as Kerry would need him.

21. I think his speaking is just fine
Certainly not on par with Clinton, who is, by all accounts, the fucking modern master of public speech, but Clark does OK.

Clark's strong suit is his writing. If you haven't read Broken Engagement yet, PLEASE do. You won't regret it. He's a great thinker!

23. He won't outshine Kerry in that area,
(public speaking), and that's the whole point
of the exercise. Kerry's okay, the general's
okay. Nothing for the Thugs to attack here.

You don't have to sell me on the general's
virtues. I've read him, both books, and the
article you mention. And he's the Grand Zen
Master of Political Smackdown on the gabfests.
(Credit American Politics Journal for that remark).

25. It's not mine, but you can have it.
I got it here, it's in the Meet the Press section,
fifth paragraph:

http://americanpolitics.com/20040509punditpap.html

Clark agreed with Levin: "legalisms" are trumping international law and the Geneva Convention, which, Clark reminded viewers, was written to cover American troops. "There is a failure of leadership that goes right to the top" -- a Commander-in-chief who keeps reminding us he is the Commander-in-chief on the campaign trail. (Pow! John Kerry has to get Clark to make more appearances on his behalf -- Clark is proving himself the Undisputed Zen Grandmaster of Political Smackdown.)

12. I think Clark is terrific.
I'm still in love with Dr. Dean, but I'm in line
behind our candidate. Kerry does not excite me.
That said, just because they're terrific doesn't
mean they don't have flaws to compensate for.

18. Astrologically speaking.......
The astrological charts for Kerry and Clark work extremely well together. The chart comparison for Kerry and Edwards show a lot of divisions, disagreements, and unhealthy competition.

It's not hard to see it in the "real world", either. But for some of us <astrologers>, there's just a little EXTRA information that shows how Kerry & Clark would do, vs. how Kerry and Edwards would do.

I don't know Clark personally. But I did work on Edwards Senatorial campaign here in N.C., and I really have a low opinion of Edwards, since he became my senator. He's truly all "pretty face" and "pretty words" and 100% politician, and he'll stab you in the back in a New York minute.

Kerry's and Clark's mutual affection/appreciation is REAL, and in the environment in which they would ascend to the presidency here in America, Kerry doesn't need some wannabe like Edwards trying to upstage him, and make himself look better than Kerry.

I really hope Kerry goes with his "gut" on this one, and chooses Clark. The other options....Gephart, Graham, etc., take the shine and charisma OUT of the ticket....they make Kerry "look" duller than how the media already tries to portray him. That shine and charisma is OBVIOUS with Kerry & Clark.

:kick::kick:

26. Your description of Edwards
is what I have always felt about him. I've only seen him on TV and he always struck me as somewhat "slimy." My female intuition tells me he's not to be trusted. You confirmed it for me (along with other N.C. ians).

I LOVE astrology! Your astrological charts for Kerry/Clark and Kerry/Edwards are enlightening. :wow: I wonder if Kerry is into astrology? :tinfoilhat:

19. More Kerry/Clark bonding
"Finally, Kerry dropped in during the lunch hour at Doe’s Eat Place, the joint Clinton’s presidential campaign made famous. Accompanied by his “new good friend,” retired Army Gen. Wesley Clark, Kerry shook the hands of diners and departed for the airport carrying a sack of burgers."

20. this is good
"He could have chosen an easy life -- some people who went to Yale did," Clark said of Kerry and of Yale graduate Bush at the fund-raiser in Little Rock Wednesday night, a jab he repeated at the two other events. "He could have pulled on those cowboy boots and put his feet up on the desk. But John Kerry didn't do that. John Kerry made decisions in his life that reflect who he is, and that shaped him and his values."
