Oh, By The Way, To Let Y'All In On A Little Secret Of Mine That Ya Might Find Interesting:
In somewhat relation to this thread:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=5271415&mesg_id=5271415

I've claimed to be on the fence for months now. I didn't announce it, but for a few weeks now I've actually been a firm Obama supporter and want him to win. I'm not gonna debate why etc, but I thought some of you might find it interesting to know that, and might help ya put some things in perspective.

It has seemed like I'm a staunch Hillary supporter because I've tried to remain objective. I think she's a great Dem and I'd be proud to have her as president, even if I now support Obama for the nomination. That's why I defend her. She doesn't have many here, and the way some try to decimate her absolutely requires defense in my opinion. More than I am a fan of the primaries, I'm foremost a DEMOCRAT. I don't want to see ANY of our democrats decimated like we see here, so that's why I play devils advocate a lot. But as I've been doing it, as I've been rushing to her defense, as I've been trying to be a player on the outnumbered side of the attack game, I've been doing so for weeks now as a full fledged OBAMA supporter.

Just wanted to finally reveal that. I shoulda written that in my other thread, but I forgot.

Peace!

OMC

You're one of the few people left here in GDP that would actively defend both candidates when they got attacked.

It's an ongoing joke in here about how vicious people can be in here to someone who does nothing more than try to ask people to remain objective.

Just as a littttttle explanation, I just finally came to as objective of a conclusion as possible, that though I think BOTH will beat McCain, that Obama would simply probably help democrats down the ticket a bit more, and I think that's really important too. But I love them both!

I'm just laughing that you've supported Obama for three weeks, but have been called a "Hillbot" among some of the nicer names, for calling out the assholes on their assholeness. And now that you post this, no one's replying because they know what jerks theyve been to you, merely because they THOUGHT you supported Hillary.

No matter who you support, when you challenge people who post dreck, you're ok with me.

It doesn't matter who someone supports, OPCs negative content is still the same negativity, even if he switched his support to Obama at some point.

I disapprove of some Obama supporters, also. We haven't formed a clan, of complete loyalty and a blind eye to those who deserve admonishment.

But I did decide a few weeks ago (and PM'd a few to let them know, actually), that I was now 100% for Obama. Took me FOREVER to decide who I thought would be best. I think they both will win, but I just can't help thinking that Obama really will help those down ticket a bit more than Hillary can. That's my main reason for going with him. As far as policies, they're both so similar and both great dems, that I'll be proud of either of them in the WH.

and I had to do a lot of homework, researching pros and cons of both candidates. Both are fine candidates, and Barack Obama's negatives seemed a lot less than Hillary Clinton's, and I've already looked through everything. I googled everything I could think of, scandals and otherwise, and I googled almost all of Obama's major supporters, and found pretty much nothing, thus putting me on Obama's side.

I posted a thread the other day that I understand where Clinton supporters were coming from.

And if Hillary is the nominee, I will vote for her. Hold my nose, yes, but I will still vote for her.

40. Here is an example of a post he has made that lacks objectivity:
Edited on Wed Mar-26-08 06:54 PM by Levgreee
In response to a criticism against Hillary, about dishonesty.

"She's No More Of A Liar Than St.Obama Is...

And if you don't think that's true, then you're likely as naive as they come."

Negativity, in 1. and 2., lack of objectivity, in 2.

1. St. Obama, slander against Obama supporters, saying they see him as some sort of saint figure.
2. If a person doesn't agree with OMC, that Obama and Hillary lie equally, they are "likely as naive as they come". People who are truly objective do not often assume they are right while dismissing other peoples' opinions, by calling them "as naive as they come". An objective person realizes that their opinions, too, are suspect.

I personally do not think Obama is as much of a lier as Hillary. I guess I am naive as they come, eh.

36. Facts Ain't For Sale. They Simply Exist.
Below, is a quick part from a PM I sent someone on the Obama side here. I cut out the other personal parts, just to post a quick statement:

Date: Mar-16-08 11:59 AM

And shhhhhhhh!!!! Don't tell anybody... But I'm officially an Obama supporter. Seriously. I finally made up my mind 100%. I'll probably be posting something towards that end later, but figured I'd tell you first. :o)

Here's another PM, in full:

Date: Mar-16-08 10:39 PM

Just wanted to let you know that a lot can happen in 24 hrs lol. Last night when I posted my "what can be found on Hillary" thread, I was already pretty sure I was about to endorse Obama and was kinda playing the devils advocate in order to keep pressing people for answers while they didn't realize I was on their side. That way, I can see what my gut reactions would be and if it felt like I was about to do the right thing.

After that thread, and especially when going to bed last night, I have in fact officially made up my mind now that I'm supporting Obama. Don't say anything cause I haven't posted that yet, but will probably post a thread declaring my support and reasons tomorrow or something. I still love Hillary more than most here, but when looking at them both I just feel that Obama will have the better edge in the GE in spite of this new story, that he can GOTV more than Hillary, that he has better grassroots organization and has run a far more competent campaign, and that he is better to help the democrats down ticket (which is important as well). I think he'll have his hurdles, but I think with all of our and others support we can recreate the snowball effect of momentum that he's already been able to create. I also think he's earned it more and done more of what's right during this primary season to arise from it the victor.

In essence, I just challenged myself to envision who, when the day came, I wanted the claps to be for when the victor was announced, and who would hurt me less to see defeated. That's the shitty part here. We have two historical candidates and both of which I feel are great. We could have the first woman or the first black man, but it can only be one. At the end of the day, I think the black community and Obama himself have just earned this victory more than Hillary has, and that when it's all said and done he deserves to stand there with his hand raised. It will be hugely disappointing to me and many as well that the first woman didn't make it, but I think in the next couple cycles she could, and I think the disappointment from that would be less than the disappointment that would occur if after all this, if after all the magic created and all the effort put forth, Obama ended up not being the nominee.

The wright thing worries we for sure, cause it truly is an MSM and RW wet dream waiting to be used. But if we can keep the grassroots going, the youth vote going, the african american vote going, and the energizing of new voters of every race, then there's no way they can stop us even with those tactics.

So yes, I'm officially in his camp now, though I haven't yet made it public. But I did want to share that with you.

Peace,

52. Good for you, OMC!!
You played your part well. I've appreciated your fairness. I think they both suck huge uncut cheesy donkey junk, but I find myself defending Hillary more because there's so much Obama Kool Aid poisoning here. There's some on the Hillary side too, but from my fence post, the onus is largely on the Obama minions.

I'll support whomever gets the nominiation... my guy threw in the towel THE DAY AFTER I voted for him... I have no dog in this race at all.

55. I Totally Support Impeachment.
I just know it ain't gonna happen, and think trying to do so when the task is impossible, will only hurt us while having no ability to help us.

But I understand we don't see eye to eye on that.

57. I agree with you about Democrats being Democrats above all.
That is the reason I cannot abide by Hillary Clinton's behavior.

I did my share of defending her and Bill Clinton over the years and just a little over a month ago I was of the belief we couldn't lose because we two great candidates to choose from and so forth. Obama was my first choice, but it wasn't out of any dislike for Hillary Clinton because I didn't dislike Hillary Clinton until recently. The line she crossed when she started praising McCain was a final straw. Democrats don't consort with the enemy. Period.

I'll defend any Democrat except one who has publicly betrayed the Democratic Party. Hillary Clinton has given aid and comfort to McCain. Hello, Hillary? McCain is a the opposition to the Democratic Party in November. In addition, Hillary Clinton has agreed to party rules and then turned around and challenged them when they prove inconvenient to her personal ambitions. She is even trying to change the way our primaries function in order to better her own chances of being nominated. As if this weren't bad enough, it has been revealed that she is a member of a right-wing religious organization that has a frighteningly theocratic agenda. This is no Democrat.

58. I have a great deal more comfort with BO than his supporters
If the rancor, abuse and gang activity in GD/P were gone, there'd be be fewer holdouts. To be honest, I probably fall in this category, because some of what has happened recently has negated some of my preference for her policy goals.

What's intriguing to me is how few "oldtimers" remain. There are probably fewer than 20 regular posters here (who can be identified by their profile) that were here for the '06 election.

I am very proud to say that I am one of the Hillary supporters that you took up for when I was being decimated by an Obama poster. I will never forget your gallantry. Thanks so much.

72. Thanks for the info OMC.
And I am a little worried at the nature of our primary. If we damage ourselves to the point of not being able to beat McCain, I'm going to need a sedative for the next four years.

76. I too have a startling confession to make- I am Pro Hillary/DLC, pro-Lieberman and anti-netroots.

Have been, always will be. I am also FOR keeping our powder dry and FOR fighting those childish, temper-tamptrum DEMS who want impeachment or any accountability for Bush.

STOP SAYING DEMS ARE NOT FIGHTING BUSH!!!!

My positions were all a front just to bring a little balance and objectivity to the debate.

Well, the secret is out- I was only pretending to support Dean, Lamont, the nutroots, Bush-Haters/Hillary Haters and Obama as an exercise in objectivity.

;)
