Run Al, Run! Is Al Gore the Answer?
http://www.time.com/time/politics/article/0,8599,1725678,00.html

Unlike Barack Obama, Bill Clinton does not believe in "the fierce urgency of now." The former President has an exquisitely languid sense of how political time unfurls. He understands that those moments the political community, especially the media, considers urgent usually aren't. He has seen his own election and re-election—and completing his second term—pronounced "impossible" and lived to tell the tale. He remembers that in spring 1992 he had pretty much won the Democratic nomination but was considered a dead man walking, running third behind Bush the Elder and Ross Perot. He knows that April is the silly season in presidential politics, the moment when candidates involved in a bruising primary battle seem weakest and bloodied, as both Hillary Clinton and Obama do now. It's the moment when pundits demand action—"Drop out, Hillary!"—and propound foolish theories. And so I'm rather embarrassed to admit that I'm slouching toward, well, a theory: if this race continues to slide downhill, the answer to the Democratic Party's dilemma may turn out to be Al Gore.

1. I can't disagree with you on this... If it looks like this party is headed to absolute...
disaster, something needs to be done to stop the blood letting... I really would not want to see this happen, but it may be the only way forward.

We need Al Gore now more than ever. I wish he would run. I KNOW he would win in a landslide.

6. NO
Our party is already fracturing over a candidate who ran this year (but came up short) thinking she can over turn the majority that voted for the other candidate, imagine the fracture that would result if the party tried nominating a guy who DIDNT EVEN BOTHER RUNNING.

No, absolutely NO.

16. Exactly! It would be a disaster
and a kick in the teeth for everyone that's worked so hard for both Obama and Hillary.

8. You don't disenfranchise millions of Americans who voted for, worked for, donated money to
all of the candidates who have taken the time and have worked hard to run: Kucinich, Edwards, Richardson, Dodd, Biden, Gravel, as well as Obama and Clinton. The winner of the nomination will either be Obama or Clinton. The next president may well be John McCain if enough Democrats are determined to bite their nose off in order to teach their face a lesson--children, childish.

12. Only 2% of the dem primary voters
gave us Obama and Clinton. The other 98% basically had to choose between those two (or three when Edwards was still in the race). Iowa was the ONLY state that had the full list of candidates to choose from.

Here is the truth. Gore WON in 2000. He had vastly more people voting for him than Obama and Clinton put together. If Obama gets the nomination then Clinton has worked for nothing, if Clinton gets the nomination then Obama has worked for nothing. The fact is, is that Gore has been working for 8 years, to not only help our country, but the entire planet.

All the candidates running should be running to help this country, not to boost their egos. If this is their true belief, then working all this time and raising all the money would have not been in vain. They should be doing what would be what is best for this country, and if it is Al Gore, then they should step aside.

14. However many people voted for Obama or Clinton,
however many people gave them money, it is thousands and thousands more than did it for Gore this year.
The whole point of having primaries and caucuses is not to impose a candidate who could not be bothered to run on the people who actually participated in the process. In the Democratic Party we believe in democracy.

Gore will not be the nominee, a concept that escapes many people here. The same people that were so absolutely sure that Gore would run and will still be sure even after the election is over.

22. Condescending much?
Actually, the whole point of primaries and caucuses is to find a candidate who can win in November.

21. Speaking as one of those
that donated to and worked for another candidate, I've felt pretty disenfranchised from the start by Ms. Inevitable and Mr. Charisma and the way the MSM were tripping over themselves to annoint them and push the other six out of the picture.

Edited on Thu Mar-27-08 12:26 PM by LakeSamish706
brokered deal that puts Al Gore as the nominee... But I by no means want to see a Hillary as the nominee either... So if it came down to Hillary stealing the nomination or Al Gore being given it... I choose Al Gore...

Bottom line for me has been anyone but Hillary...

Yes I want to see a Barack Obama as our nominee and very soon there after our next President....
