I think the phrase "President Obama" has a nice ring to it. Stay with me here, because
I'm going to tell you why:

Not that I have a damn thing against white people, but what message would it send to the rest of the world if we had a President who didn't have another name in the unending string of Presidents we've had so far, with bland, whitebread names?

It would send the message that yes, we've FINALLY figured out that we're not just a whitebread country.

And that we like it that way.

1. An Obama Presidency would do so much to make amends with the international community
we have alienated. And his name, his spirit, and everything about him will help.

I'm really beginning to hope he can pull this off. I'm just so scared to hope anymore.

2. He would be a multicultural president...
...for a multicultural nation. Not only a positive for the country, but a positive in the eyes of the rest of the world. I say that as a Hillary supporter (yes, still), yet would be pleased to vote for Obama if it comes to that.

There's hope for us yet.

4. Are you joking? The name "Obama" rhymes with the first name of a certain mass murderer.
Edited on Thu Mar-27-08 06:23 PM by The Night Owl
Of course, anyone who changes the name "Obama" to "Osama" deserves a big middle finger. And, anyone who changes the name "Hillary" to "Hitlery" deserves a big middle finger.

6. Jeez, thanks for the edit. I was starting to worry about you. Good to know you hadn't either
lost your grip, or forgotten the "sarcasm" thingie.

"Hitlery?" That's as far below contempt as the other you mentioned. So is "Hillbot" and all the other despicable, juvenile name-calling that's been going on here.

8. The Hitlery name has always really pissed me off
I'm pretty ticked at her right now but calling her that demeans everyone that had to suffer because of the Holocaust. And it's just an asshat thing to call someone. I've gotten to the point where I roll my eyes anytime I hear Obama called Osama. Use a little creativity dittoheads. :eyes:

9. It's especially depressing when the dittoheadedness slops over to DU.
After all, the rightwingers don't have enough brains to say anything without resorting to juvenile crap they heard on Rush Limpball's radio show, but WE are supposed to be smarter than that.

14. I agree
And I like to think that the vast majority of us are. :) Those that aren't - well, I do think a great deal of them are provocateurs for one reason or another (freepers, campaign workers, political strategists). Some are decent people who let their anger and insecurities control them. And some are just assholes. :(

Luckily, I feel like the Democratic Party attracts caring, compassionate people because of what it stands for. And that gives me hope we'll all get through this primary and election intact and be ready to fight for those ideals.

17. Oh, shit, I hadn't thought about the possibility of them being
"campaign workers or political strategists."

That's actually plausible these days, isn't it? Damn embarassing to think we could be being manipulated byt such people, but I'd not doubt your premise for a moment.

Things have changed in politics, and not all for the better.

36. It's kind of creepy, isn't it?
:(

But think about it. I know for a fact that music companies send out people to post on message boards to get people interested in a band. That's actually why Christina Aguilera got famous - people went to teen music boards and posted stuff like "OMG! Have you heard 'Genie in a Bottle'?!! It's SOOOO DOPE!!!!!" :eyes: I run a message board and people spam it with products all the time - I run IP addresses and I can see that these people promoting the products are from the same city/town of the company the product is from. Sometimes it's even the same internet service provider. :grr: If they do it for products, why wouldn't they do it for political campaigns? I'd do it if my bread and butter was political maneuvering.

Have you noticed that whenever Clinton supporters and Obama supporters on DU declare a small truce, some jackass comes on to rile things up all over again? Sometimes it's just an honest to goodness rabid supporter (and I wish they knew the damage they were doing to their candidate :( ) But it happens too often and it's almost too calculated because of the inflammatory nature of the post. And I don't want to cast aspersions on any newbie or person with a low post count (b/c even though I've been here for years, I don't post very often) but I have noticed that some of these people post fast and furious but they're pretty new - and some of the crap they post is just ridiculous.

I'm fascinated with political gamesmanship. The machiavellian nature of it is just compelling to me. I've often thought about a career in it. But at the end of the day, I care too much about what I believe in and I think it's a rare soul who gets to work in politics and follow their heart, not just their head. There's a lot of money and power in making and breaking a candidate and too many people get caught up in the process, rather than the ideas behind it. :(

18. I can't advise your brother on what it's like to be "half balck," but I can say that
my wife is half African, and the idea doesn't bother her at all.

And I'm half white and half American Indian, and it doesn't "sound terrible" to me either.

what does that say about us?

I'd be every bit as happy to have a "Madam President," as I would be to have a "President Obamama."
