Nader just advised Kerry to choose Edwards or Gephardt as VP
Edited on Sun May-23-04 10:20 AM by Padraig18
On ABC's This Week with Geo. Stephanopolous, he said he advised him to pick one of those two, because they've been 'vetted' and add 'depth' to the ticket.

:)

Edit: typo

Edited on Sun May-23-04 10:25 AM by Rationality
Gephardt is good for the labor interests, but he has always been a blowover..

edit: turns out Nader mentioned Edwards and Gephardt, not Gore and Gephardt.

13. Nader is right
i have done some research on who can help kerry gain ADDITIONAL votes and both edwards and gephardt appeal to voters outside of those who already vote for kerry. and while most people will vote based on kerry, you have to understand that with things so close the vp being able to bring in a few votes could make the difference in swing states. and edwards and gep both help kerry in swing states.

15. He expanded a bit on the 'vetted' part.
He said that in addition to adding depth, that both of them have been thoroughly examined by the press and the GOP, and there won't be any 'bombshells' down the road with either of them in the VP slot.

16. Depth to the ticket?
Edwards, a guy who has spent the majority of his life being a personal injury attorney, adds depth to the ticket? Oh please. This country is in a screwed up mess, a lightweight personal injury attorney isn't going to cut it. As far as being vetted, give me a break. Nader must really want to increase his vote count in November.

Edited on Sun May-23-04 02:06 PM by Padraig18
He adds charisma and appeals to blue-collar democrats, Independents and disgruntled Republicans; to be blunt, he has proven to be more popular among Democrats than any candidate running this year, except Kerry himself. Edwards is FAR from being a 'lightweight', Skwmom.

47. Oh please.
He adds surface charisma and appeal. However, once people learn more about the personal injury attorney the appeal is gone. I know plenty of blue-collar Democrats who aren't thrilled in the least with Chuckie boy and the only Republicans I know cheering Edwards on are supporting Bush for another 4. He is not qualified to be a heart beat away from serving as commander in chief.

I thought the Democrats liked candidates of substance (such as Clinton and Gore). I guess the dumbing down of America continues.

17. Has Nader forgotten about Gep's support of Bush's war?
Even recently, Nader has still insisted that Gore would have done the same thing as Bush vis-a-vis Iraq. And now he is promoting Gephardt, of all people, as a VP candidate? Has Ralph forgotten that Gephardt was probably the one person in the Democratic Party who was most responsible for the mess we are in now because he backstabbed his own party leadership in order to shortcut the war vote?

Ralph Nader doesn't know what he's talking about. The man is trying to put Bush back in the WH for another 4 years and Kerry is suppose to listen to him? I don't think so!

31. Not everything Nader says is a lie.
It's illogical to assume that. If Nader said the sun rises in the east, then that would be true. By the same token, suggesting that Kerry pick one of two 'vetted' Dems as his VP is also not illogical.

37. Nader said if you want to get rid of Bush then vote for Kerry
nader said kerry has a great record on many important issues. nader says bush has to go. i see nothing wrong with these things. if nader said something like both kerry and bush are the same i would disagree. but if nader says he disagrees with kerry on some things but has a great record on most things than i see nothing wrong with it and that's how he seems to be doing things this time around. he is mostly bashing bush . and one reason i agree with nader on gephardt and edwards is because of research i did myself that show they would help kerry.

39.  I hope you're right. The thing is, I've really, really
hated Nader for something like 30 years now, and I trust him about as far as I can throw him. The man openly, blatantly, and shamelessly threw the 2000 election to Bush (allegedly because, according to him, Al Gore wouldn't return his phone calls) and I have no reason to believe his motives are any different this time around. Hell's bells, he was on MTP just a week ago whining that Kerry wasn't returning his phone calls. This is how he makes policy decisions??

You can't know how fervently I hope and pray you're right about him and I'm wrong, but I seriously doubt it. IMO he's every bit the RW stalking horse he was in 2000, except now he's just decided to tone it down, to make some of the right noises, in order to bamboozle the well-meaning progressives who are actually starting to pay attention and finally beginning to sniff the stench he's been emitting for years now.

Sorry, but I hate that son of a bitch. You can't possibly know how much I loathe that lying, conniving, egotistical bastard. He (among others) makes me wish I were a Christian, so I could believe in a hell I could consign him to.

He's a traitor, pure and simple. And jeez, just look at him. He could star in a remake of Night of the Living Dead and wouldn't even need special makeup.

And next time, I'll tell y'all how I really feel about Ralphy.

29. Nader is so transparent
He wants to look like he's ahead of the curve. He thinks Kerry is going to chose one of them, so he wants it to look like his idea. His followers are just blinded enough to think he had influence.

Also an interesting aside is that Dean has been working overtime trying to make sure his fans who are anti-war and might stray to Nader don't. I think Nader is pissed about that.

33. Breaux would be a good, solid choice.
He's the most popular politician in LA and a LOYAL Democrat, albeit conservative. He wouldn't be my 1st choice, but anyone who brings a state's EVs to the table has to be considered seriously, and I believe Breaux would do that. I also think Breaux would help in AR, TN and VA, and would also help our House and Senate candidates. Lastly, he and Kerry apparently get along well with each other.

Nader wants to increase his percentage points in the election. He's not going to "help" another candidate.

I think he named the two he thinks will NOT help the Kerry ticket....and I think he may be right. I don't see the independents in the 18 battleground states flipping for Edwards or Gephardt.
