Clark's Recent Television Appearances. . . Edwards Appearances??
Meet The Press 5-17-04
Paula Zahn 5-25-04
Hardball 5-27-04

These are only a few off the top of my head.
He was supposed to be on Washington Journal, and I didn't see him on Anderson Cooper tonight. Not sure what happened there.

I think he was on Faux "News" recently too, but can't remember the date.
Anybody remember other appearances? I'm pretty sure there are more.

Edwards - ????
-All you Edwards people, refresh my memory if I have forgotten, but I cannot recall any recent Edwards appearances on t.v. Not trying to be a smartass, just wondering.

5. N.C. senator gets the closest look (MSNBC)

-snip-
At the Kerry campaign’s request, the North Carolinian is doing four major events in June, three in battleground states. The headliner is the mid-month Jefferson-Jackson Weekend in Florida. If Edwards is a hit there, he could be on his way to the vice presidential nomination in Boston in July.

-snip-

Kerry is asking Edwards to pursue a heavy schedule of fund-raising and political events; Edwards is only too happy to do it — as an audition for the veep slot but also as a way to build his own grass-roots and state party ties for the long haul he has just barely begun.

Since May, mostly at Kerry’s behest, Edwards has traveled to party events in Minnesota, Colorado, South and North Carolina, Washington State and North Dakota. More important, and more to the point, he has made three stops on three different dates in Ohio, perhaps the ultimate battleground state. As it happens, Kerry’s Ohio media director is Jennifer Palmieri, one of the party’s savviest and best-liked operatives. Her previous job: Edward’s campaign-trail press secretary. A meaningless coincidence? Perhaps. A handy accident if Edwards is the running mate? For sure.

Where does the process stand?
And just where is Kerry in the veep selection process? Edwards’ busy schedule in June, culminating in the Iowa state convention at the end of the month, is strong evidence that the presumptive nominee is unlikely to announce a selection until the July 4th weekend at the earliest.

-snip-

Interesting...

8. Kerry is asking Edwards to appear at major functions.
Clark is doing a great job of getting himself on TV.

We'll soon see which is more important to Kerry.

:toast:

Kerry/Edwards '04. And beyond...

11. Clark doesn't "get himself on TV." The Kerry campaign
books all his appearances.

13. I'm sure what he said is true...
That Kerry's campaign is doing the booking. Remember when Edwards was on TV, it was at the request of Kerry's campaign. The schedule for Edwards is also at Kerry's request.

I don't see this as a war of which is better...Clark or Edwards, but simply using your people where they can be best used.

Clark for speaking about the current military situations. Edwards for exciting the base.

I think what Kerry is doing is excellent and smart and shows that he wants both of these men involved in his administration in the future.

14. Nope, but he's Kerry's official surrogate and has been
since he dropped out of the race. AFAIK the Kerry Campaign is booking Edwards' and Dean's appearances as well, so don't get your knickers in a twist.

support your assertion.

"AFAIK" is not exactly something I'd take to the bank.

16. Read the other post on this topic, and use some common sense.
They're all speaking for Kerry now, not for themselves. Of course Kerry's campaign is booking their appearances. None of them have their own campaign staffs now anyway.

19. Yeah...
But you left out these parts:

The two men don’t like each other much, but there is no deep enmity and they are now, at the very least, using each other in a classic exercise in mutual back-scratching.

snip

the main drawbacks are his lack of experience (especially in foreign and military affairs) and such an evident hunger for the White House that it can make even a man such as Kerry — no wallflower in the ambition department — nervous.

9. Edwards schedule is pretty much booked through June
From what I've seen his schedule is filled through June. During the week he's working in the Senate. There's stuff that needs to be done there and important votes coming up and his voice is needed there.

Other dates for Edwards...

June 12-13: Florida Democratic Party's Jefferson Jackson Weekend
June 18: Texas Democratic Party Convention
June 19: Louisiana Democratic Party Jefferson Jackson Dinner
June 25-26: Iowa Democratic Party Hall Of Fame Dinner And State Convention

Note that the current events going on right now are war related and Kerry would not call on Edwards to be his spokesman in such issues. He turns to Clark for this. He has requested Edwards when it dealt with economy issues.

Personally, I don't think this is a reflection of Kerry's favor toward either one of them but a smart use of the assets available and using Edwards and Clark where they will both be most effective.

21. He was in Colorado recently
to promote the "presumed" Democratic nominee for our newly vacated Senate seat, Ken Salazar. Held a fundraiser for him and everything.

His persuasive abilities must have paid off because the other guy, Mike Miles, ended up beating him at the Colorado Assembly. And there had been some real question as to whether he would even get on the ballot.

So I'm kind of glad that he came here, since Miles is my candidate.:D

17. Very smart: Clark for Foreign Policy on TV, Edwards for Face-to-Face
One of the few things the Kerry campaign is doing exactly right.

Wesley Clark cannot be topped on foreign policy. He goes on these talking head shows and none of these loud-mouthed dweebs can hold a candle to him. They actually look stupid trying to argue with Clark. Especially that asshole Lou Dobbs. Wes Clark kicks their ass.

But for face-to-face, handshaking, feel-your-pain stuff, Edwards was far ahead of the entire Dem field.

Kerry is playing this one just right.

25. The problem with the feel-your-pain stuff
once it's revealed that he doesn't really feel your pain (can we say zero pro bono work for starters), it will leave Edwards looking pretty smarmy.

27. I just saw Clark face to face
and he knows how to get a crowd going. Remember, he lead people into battle, the guy knows how to psych up the troops!

Edwards has all that "trial lawyer" baggage that the repubs will throw at him. Kerry has enough baggage of his own, he needs a guy like Clark, who has more pluses than minuses, on the ticket.

Can't argue with that. He is even better at debating foreign policy though. Not a one of those right-wing blowhards can withstand his arguments.

30. Exactly, Kerry is using the Best for what they do Best
All the news outlets will want to talk about the war right now. And that is where Clark excels. But the Party favorite is Edwards and he is going out to some key states to energize the base.

Kerry is doing exactly what he should be doing. This isn't a contest between Edwards and Clark. It is Kerry giving them the best jobs and it should work.

I think it's great that Clark is on TV and Edwards is going to conventions.

Edited on Wed May-26-04 10:18 PM by LandOLincoln
The difference? I think Clark would be doing the same thing no matter what, whereas these days I get the creepy feeling that Johnny Sunshine (who was my second choice throughout the primaries) is doing it because he expects something in return.
