DR

What's Next?
The progressive voters rallied behind their candidate in the primary season. Now what?

It has never been just about the individual candidate, it has always been about the message, about the movement, and about the people that want to reclaim their democracy. We are here to embrace the power of the grassroots, and to organize toward progressive change.

Progressive Vote is a new national political organization uniting a progressive base of voters in the 2004 general election. We will demonstrate to the Democratic Party that there are many voters that represent progressive values. Too many to ignore! We will use this base to help the Democrats win with our issues at the core of the movement!

Mission:
To identify and support individuals who become involved with the Democratic Party to represent the underserved and unheard majority and secure social and economic justice.

Vision:

We will have succeeded when the core values of the Democratic Party represent the underserved and unheard.

4. Take heart, DR
I know the feeling all too well-- it seems like we're surrounded by the DLC sorts who seem to think "liberal" is Bill Clinton.

Minnesota had its state convention last weekend, and I have to tell you that the Kucinich folk, in league with a good number of progressives from the Dean, Edwards AND Kerry camps, DOMINATED the floor!

MN for Kucinich, along with a group called Peace in the Precincts, formed an organized, coherent and powerful voting bloc on the floor of the caucus. We were mainly fighting for peace issues and supporting candidates for various party positions (like the DNC) woh were "peace-friendly". You could identify us by this sticker, which we all wore:

We had a very good floor organization, with leaders at the county, congressional district and top/state level. We have approximately a dozen people keeping track of the various votes/issues, who then communicated to the CD and county-level leaders, who then communicated to their delegations. We were powerful enough to affect almost every vote on every issue, from procedural to platform to party officer positions.

As a matter of fact, WE even had party regulars coming up to US to get our support on their issues, we were that organized and powerful!

We're all still coming down off of a fantastic state convention, where progressives played a BIG role in the direction of this party. We may not have all supported the same candidates, but we all came together to support a unified progressive message.

3. I've been following this site for a while -- GREAT STUFF
...because we in MN are in the process of getting our group recognized as an "official" party club this year. We've got a bare-bones site up now, but we're updating it as I speak! Visit www.ProgressiveCaucus.net for a peak.

We had what is could be called a "kickoff" party last Friday night at the MN DFL Convention. We had attendees from several campaigns (Kucinich, Dean, Edwards, even Kerry) and from many other groups (Peace in the Precincts, a non-partisan group working for peace in the party platform).

As our state DK coordinator said, "we started in the small room, but moved into the BALLROOM. We packed our tiny original room immediately after we started, and the catering staff at the hotel was kind enough to get us a bigger ballroom for the event. We had the best party at the convention that night-- better than the other candidates, elected officials, etc.

Our voting bloc at the convention represented at least 30% (if not more) of the delegates on the floor. Even those who weren't "officially" with the bloc supported us. Why? Because we were not afraid to speak up for the progressive issues that have long been the heart and soul of our party. And we're the ones who can wake up the grassroots and get people out to the polls!

Hang on folks, it's gonna be a hell of a ride!

11. You're too kind!
I just came from a meeting where we're working on our platform issues for the DNC. I'm not at liberty to disclose much now, but let's just say that we've got some VEEERRRYYYY interesting things going on right now!

Also, here's a link to some cool pics from the MN DFL State convention. Lots of photos of Kucinich/progressive/peace-oriented people from our party and organizing meeting convention morning. I'm in a few-- I'm the guy with the guitar!

Enjoy! :hi:

8. Caucuses....cooool....
The intent of the State Democratic Party Progressive Caucuses is to provide a philosophical home within the Democratic Party for the progressive community….. a place where they can continue to work to implement public policy that reflects human rights, economic equality, and social and environmental justice.

The intent of the State Democratic Party Progressive Caucuses is to ensure a strong progressive voice within the Democratic Party.

The Progressive Caucuses will in-turn help the Democratic Party attract potential “swing voters” from the political left that might well determine the upcoming elections.

Progressive Vote will provide the vital link to coordinate work between individual state Progressive Caucuses.

16. Yeah, I'm done until August!
And we've had some wacky weather here in SLC (snow in the higher parts). I wish it'd warm up, not feeling much like the end of spring, start of summer! :)

I'm workin hard on two political campaigns, but both aren't doing well in the polls. :(

Alas, I'll continue!

Hope everything is going well with you.

14. Good stuff.
The difference between feeling disenfranchised or energised; the progressive caucus' will give positive focus and energy to the goals. And will give support to Dennis (and other progressive candidates and reps) for their efforts on our behalf.

I've begun the long, involved process of moving job and home to another state. When I get that done, I'm going to hook up with the progressive caucus in that state.
