Yes, Gov. Warner is the bright spot here in Virginia among all the repukes in this state. If not VEEP, he should certainly have a place within a Kerry administration. He's a great guy, solid leadership and fiscally responsible. He singlehandedly solved this states' budget crisis and the accolades for doing so should be loud and proud!

Mark ran a great campaign, but you do you think he has the national security credentials the VP will need?

3. Not going to happen - and it's all Virginia's fault. |
|
What an asful idea to term-limit governors to a single term.
Warner might have made a great candidate for President in '08 or '12 if he was able to serve two or three terms. But you don't elect a Governor half way through his first term, and you don't elect one two years after he is out of office.
If he can take John Warner's Senate seat away from the Republicans he may be a good VP nominee next time around (if it's 2012 he could run for President).
He'd be almost a lock if he had 2-3 terms as governor.

4. Warner Clearly Has Something That Could Change the Paradigm |
|
He won as a red-blooded southern Democrat in Virginia.
A lot of younger Democratic politicians from the South strike many southerners as elitist -- John Edwards, Erskine Bowles, even Al Gore and Bill Clinton. While they may be good politicians and win races, it maintains the stereotypes that keep Democrats from doing better in the South.
Warner has some of the populist down-home appeal that can change the party's image in the South. He does that without the segregationist baggage. I think enough of the South is over traditional racism to elect a person like Warner and start to win back some red states.
He's not my first choice because I'm not sure he's ready for the presidency. But it's a very interesting political possibility.

20. although he's not actually a southerner.... |
|
...I'm trying to remember, but I think he's from Kansas. He's basically a transplanted Northern Virginian, which is not really a southerner even by Virginia's standards. He also won against a weak republican.

10. I could live with Warner. He's attractive and very personable.. |
|
I don't know anything about his politics. But for the shallow voters who vote for looks and personality I think he would go over very nicely.

11. I very much like our governor |
|
but I want him to finish out his term and work on fixing Virginia. There are plenty of capable VP candidates already and any of the front runners would be acceptable to me.
I think Warner should be groomed to take George Allen's Senate seat in 2008. We need to get the Senate back for the Dems.

19. I'd like him to be VP, but... |
|
I think the Senate is a much more realistic expectation right now. I really admire what he's done to help get Virginia out of the hole that Gilmore got us into, but I think he does need a bit more experience on a national level to do any good to Kerry's team. I would like it if he could serve another term here, though, except for the whole term limit thing...
But if Kerry chose him, you'd hear no gripes from me.

keep him as governor of a Southern state. We need all the progressives we can get down here. Sorry. I like the man, obviously, but I'm selfish. LOL!

18. i think he could be the "surprise" choice |
|
often ,especially in recent times the vp picks have been someone not really thought about too much. even though we knew lieberman was on al gore's short list , most still thought gore would pick kerry or maybe bob graham. but lieberman wasn't really discussed.
and clinton picked gore when many thought he would pick someone form another geographic area. but clinton was smart and realized that it's mostly those in the south who vote based on who the hometown candidates are. and the rest of the country does not really consider it as much as the south.
and of course we all know cheney picked himself. most vp's for bush that were talked about were some congressman from california to help him with california, or frank keating. and some others.but nobody reallly thought cheney and most didn't think cheney would pickhimself. but seeing now whois really in charge, it's no surprise it happened.

There are three big problems with Warner:
1. He has zero foreign policy experience and has only been in office for two years.
2. It's unlikely that Warner -- who was born and raised in Connecticut -- would deliver Virginia or any other southern state.
3. His wealth. Like Kerry, Warner is extremely wealthy (worth over $300 million). I don't have anything against wealthy people, but it's probably not a good idea to have two rich guys on the ticket.
