Latest Kerry poll
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/05/26/opinion/polls/main619786.shtml

According to this poll, a Kerry-McCain ticket would bolster further Kerry's chances of winning. More fuel for the fire of this controversial topic!

1. So, 53% of the voting public thinks it would be okay
Edited on Thu May-27-04 10:31 AM by elperromagico
for President Kerry to be assassinated. Great.

Why don't we just pick Bush as Kerry's running mate? All in the name of "unity."

13. I get your point.
But that's not what people are thinking.

15. Yes, and that's the problem.
No matter how heroic McCain may be, he's still a Republican with conservative stances on many issues. Put him in as Kerry's VP, and you're just inviting some wacko to shoot Kerry. Simple as that. If you want Kerry assassinated, then Kerry/McCain is the ticket for you.

If, as some here contended, Wes Clark wasn't Democratic enough to be President, then John McCain isn't Democratic enough to be Vice President.

17. But Wes might have the same effect as McCain.
By making Republicans/moderates more comfortable with a Democratic candidate.

2. Wow!
Kerry-McCain leads Bush-Cheney by 14. I know it won't happen, but it's still amazing to see that figure.

3. thanks for posting an interesting poll, domitan
Although those poll numbers are tempting, I'd only want McCain as Veep if he:
* Resigned from the Republican Party
* Joined The Democratic Party
* Announced he is pro-choice

I'd just be happy if we got those Kerry/Edwards 50 Bush/Cheney 40 poll numbers.

5. McCain as Veep if and only if:
Cheney resigns immediately.
Bush appoints McCain to the veep slot
Bush resigns.

7. One more proviso:
Edited on Thu May-27-04 10:51 AM by elperromagico
McCain has to publicly call Bush* "a goddamn asshole" for what Bush* did to him in South Carolina.

8. what this really measures, imo
is the number of republicans who are looking for a reason to vote for kerry. it allows them to vote their conscience without feeling like traitors. i think that when they get into the booth, most will pull the lever for kerry.

11. Isn't it interesting
I thought the same thing. Kerry would still be the same President, so it must be that the majority of people are at least comfortable with him if they'd vote for him with McCain. I don't think a Kucinich/McCain ticket would go over that well! If he can just keep talking and assuring people that he'd be a President all Americans can respect, I think he has the chance to pull off a real landslide!

9. No way! We don't need McCain.
He doesn't hold the core values of the Democatic party. If something should happen to Kerry, we'd have a republican President. How does that sound?

12. Better than Bush as President. But actually I agree with you
I would not live with the same sense of dread shame and justifiable paranoia with McCain as President as I do with Bush, but as things now stand, such desperate measures as a National Unity Ticket are not called for. It's enough for Kerry to project that he will deal honorably with honorable people from both sides of the aisle to distinguish himself from Bush in that regard.

16. National Unity Ticket
The calls for a National Unity Ticket come primarily from the "liberal media", who simply want a moderate filler until the next republican president comes along in 4 years, who they will want to shill for and worship.

If we can get two good Democrats on the ticket then we can turn the tide in this country in the favor of sound economics, social liberalism and competent government. Re-applying the fairness doctrine will help us to lay the ground work.
