Kerry at Rolling Thunder??
Every Memorial Day thousands of bikers decend on DC for Rolling Thunder, a tribute to the dead and MIA from Vietnam. I've gotten an email from the kerry campaign asking me to help leaflet the crowd, and I got to wondering....

Might JFK show up and ride with them?

4. No,
but Rolling Thunder isn't necessarily representative of the larger Vet population - it almost certainly skews Republican.

6. Exactly....
though all of them aren't necessarily Republicans, alot of them are most definitely Libertarian in streak...and very nationalistic.

15. I heard on the news (CNN?) they were endorsing Bush. No surprise there.

7. Are you familiar with Rolling Thunder?
It doesn't sound like it. They're not your average vets.

9. The guy who spoke for them today was pro-Bush 100%. Loved this war.
I thought Rolling Thunder opposed the Iraq War last year. That was my impression. I saw that part and turned it off. He said vet benefits were being raised under Bush, the war was going just great...made fun of Kerry for bringing up his military experience.
He was sickening.

13. He was also asked why he supported Bush going after Saddam
in spite if the false reasons for going to war and he said, "Do you want to wait till he (Saddam) hits us again?" I wanted to slap him in the head. You'd think someone so involved would know what they were talking about. :grr: :evilfrown:

18. it really irks me
when people support candidates who in fact do things that directly hurt them or their groups. like cutting veteran's benefits and then have a vet say that Bush did the opposite! it's obvious that guy Woodruff interviewed cared more about Bush then he did about vet benefits.

5. I heard Woodruff speaking to their rep today....ugh.
He was praising Bush for veterans' care and for the way the war is going. I was stunned.

8. Saw That Segment, He Was Sucking Up To Bush - Major
lying for Bush too!

He was yammering about how Clinton cut just about everything for vets and Bush has given it all back.

Their big issue is the belief that lots of GIs are still in prison camps in Vietnam. Kerry was instrumental in the 'big lie official story' that there are no US POWs in 'nam. I doubt these nuts care for Kerry. Of course McCain was just as instrumental as Kerry, but since he was a POW I have no idea where they are on McCain.

(Here in the DC area a local Harley dealership has become like a carnival site with bleachers set up and all suburban steakhouses are full to over-flowing... Rolling Thunder is proving to be a lot more distracting than the cicadas)

17. Jeez...
Guess I'm gonna have to do some work at the lake tomorrow.

To clarify - I go to a portion of a lake around here that not too many people go to because, well, it's quiet. The reason? The bikers go there - Rolling Thunder comes through all the time.
I'm not "ascared" of them - never have been. They've always been nice and polite and never bother me or my son.
I don't have any Kerry lit - but I do have Wes Clark stuff. He's not the nominee, but maybe the best segue would be to bring him up - that he's supporting Kerry and that Bush has pretty much torn apart the vets (many Harley riders are also vets, even if they're not Rolling Thunder. I know a few - by name - that.... OH!!! I know!!! I know who to call!) Thanks for this thread.

On it.. as they would say.
