I think if he is on the ticket my daughters in their twenties will be more likely to vote. Now they just feel like its for the old people and they can't relate at all. I am teaching them about all the issues and trying but its hard with the young.

kerry was my first choice in the primary and i'm of course happy he won. but edwards has become my #1 choice for vp because of things i have seen and some of the edwards people have made a pretty good case for why he would be a good vp for kerry.

I remember my DU assessment of more than a year ago:
* John Edwards is a gamble on greatness
* John Kerry is just good enough to get you beat
I ignored the puree possibility. Perhaps a nice blend will be just enough to prove me wrong regarding the latter.

I think they are testing and using people at the same time, giving them more of a general chance to contribute than they would have once the media stops the horse race coverage. It also is a test who can help still if NOT chosen as VP.
Number one on my list as VP but the there may be a lot of decisions I am not ready to second guess. This is one and I am confident Kerry will make his choice well.
My main question is how safe is Edwards' Senate seat with or without his running as VP? That is very big this year regardless of Kerry's margin of victory.

for AG and, when the opportunity arises, as Kerry's first appointment to the Supreme Court. He would be a great counter vailing force to Scalia and Thomas in the decades to come. These are life time appointments! IMO, he would be largely wasted in the veep spot.

30. Hi Tansy. PM Du'er AP, who had the greatest collection of JRE pics. |
|
I think they used to be posted at the Raleigh News and Observer's "Eye on Edwards" portrait gallery, but I can't find them now (they have changed the site recently). If you want to give it a try: www.newsobserver.com
But AP has "all things Edwards".
We could use some more pictures in this thread, too! I don't know how to post them.

If you want to meet up with any of the Edwards blogger from the Grassroots site, please check it out and join. I know we have one or two delegates who will be going and trying to give support for Edwards for VP. Meanwhile...all I can say is lucky you and get pictures. Here's the grassroots web link. http://www.jregrassroots.org/jre/index.php

I've been trying to stay out of the endless Clark threads, but I've relapsed of late. Mercifully, I was out of town this weekend, otherwise I'd have wasted more time.
Regardless of the front-loading of the primaries this year, he made quite an impression, and that cannot be discounted. This is a person who can help heal both the nation and our relations with the world, and I think he has a very good chance of being a statesman for the ages.
If he gets the Veep slot, it'll be "Two Lawyers against two criminals"...

36. Did you know that he was the fourth most liberal senator in 2003 and that |
|
the National Journal study which conducted the study said that he has taken a "sharp turn" to the left since announcing that he wasn't running for senate reelection.
You can probably be proud right now to be the constituent of the most liberal senator in the country. I bet as a NC'ian you probably never thought you'd be able to say that.

I've been a vocal and partisan supporter of his since before I started posting on this board in the summer of '01, and have been very active on the subject since then. (I think I actually got enthused with him in December of '00 when I picked him up on my radar.)
I'm well aware of the ratings, although that IS news about his post-announcement voting.
(I'm in California; I like the guy because of his actions and heart, and the fact that I found out about all that without ever being a constituent is all the more testimony of his greatness.)

37. Supported, voted for him in my caucus |

which he won, as well as the one next door, even though by then he already withdrew, donated money, shook his hand but... would advise him against the V.P. post.
First, I don't think that a two-senator ticket is wise. As many observed during the primaries, there is not that much difference between them, except for style and accents ;-)
Second, there have been very few sitting V.P.s who were elected to become presidents. Papa Bush is one, and he lasted only one term. Thus if he wants someday to run again, say, in 2012 - by then he will be younger than Kerry is now - he should start building his network, should be involved in many activities, where he can show his executive skills, and then run again.
(For the same historical reasons, Kerry V.P. should not even try to run in 2012, but take time off to build his/her own persona independent of Kerry).

39. Edwards getting experience? |
|
You are not the only Edwards supporter that I know who do not want to see him in the VP spot. From what I could tell in the primary most people wanted him to have more experience. There's nothing in NC for him to run for if Kerry doesn't pick him up in some position.
Some have talked about AG, but he's been out of law practice for 5 years and I believe that Kerry had stated that he wants someone active in law to be AG.
So...what would be your ideal to keep him active and get him the experience he needs to make a run in the future?

I think it Supreme Court would be even more of a long shot. He's never been a judge. At least he has been in law for years and could brush up on it. AG might be a place for him. Certainly I'd much rather have Edwards in that position then nothing.
