Of course I'll vote for the Democratic nominee. I would have preferred that it be Edwards. Heck, I'd prefer at this point that Gore's presidency was just ending, and that we were promoting some capable vice president after 8 years of additional peace, prosperity, and moving towards taking meaningful action on global climate change.

We can't always have what we wish for, but I wish I could feel that I was voting for the person I thought would be the most effective president, not who's supposedly running the best campaign.

People have constantly faulted Gore for not running as good a campaign as Bush. Of course, the spending differential between Bush and Gore (and Bush and Kerry for that matter) was even less great than that between Obama and Clinton at this point, but I wish we could vote for the candidate, NOT the campaign.

Earlier in this campaign...people sometimes posted that they wouldn't vote for Hillary if she won...back in the days of hope. Well, I was shocked...I tell ya I was shocked! I thought and told them how unpatriotic they were and how they could they let the rethugs pick the next 3 or so conservative SCJ.

Sorry this is taking so long but I'm still pondering me answer.

It would be a lot easier to vote for Obama if he didn't have so many hateful unfair supporters who lie about Hillary and ask for her to step dowm because SHE...not he...are dividing the party. To be perfectly honest...and I always am...I'd kind of hate to give those posters the satisfaction of seeing Hillary go down in flames and their guy raise to the heavens.

But...then my common sense gets the better of me and I realize I'm cutting my nose off to spite my face.

Then in a weak moment after reading some nasty posts here I say.
"FUCK it!" I'll not vote! Why should I? It's no skin off my hide!

I'm past child bearing age...so is my daughter...so why should I care whether women lose the right to an abortion. I already have Medicare so why should I give a damn if younger people have Health Insurance? I'm already retired and my children have good out-source safe jobs...so I don't give a hoot about jobs...no skin off my hide. I'll be dead in too few years so I won't be effected about global warning...any more than bush* will. My family all live up here in God's country so we'll be fine with a McCain administration...won't effect me and Obama will probably lose anyway. So why the hell should I vote? What do I have to lose?

I'll tell you what...my country, my dignity, my political party and the future of my Grandchildren and their children etc. The only thing I could gain is some revenge on some of the nasty Obama supporters. It isn't worth it! So...yes..I will vote for Obama and I won't even have to hold my nose.

It took me a long time to answer your question...but I had to think that one out as I went along with my 2 finger typing. A quick gut reaction would be..."Hell no!"

Then I think, second, that they have had far too much help. The media in this country is rotten to the core, whether one looks at how they treated Hillary in this primary, or Obama, or Gore or Kerry or the Iraq war and its run-up...

As things are, I don't think a fair election was in the cards for either of them. If the shoe was on the other foot, as they say, it would be the same shoe.

I think, if anything, the young need guidance. The media I grew up with is not the media we have today, and what is apparently acceptable speech and treatment here is certainly not what I was ever taught...but if we all throw up our hands and go home, say nothing, nobody ever learns.

A lot of the Hillary supporters put me on ignore way back. The ones that do not have me on ignore like to point out that I am a nazi and a sociopath no matter how innocuous I try to be in regards to Senator Clinton. I am painfully aware that if I make an observation as to Mrs. Clinton's behavior or voting record or past history, I am "bashing" her. I do not call her names nor do I try to instigate a flame war - no matter, I am made out to be some lunatic who hates the Democratic party.

I voted for Obama but do not see him as anywhere near perfect. I have yelled about his flaws and cringe when I see a major faux pas. I do not try and sanitize a situation by pretending it does not exist.

I will vote for the Democratic candidate, period. (doesn't mean I have to like it.)

Look, we tend to get caught in the here and now, and lose perspective. Once September and October roll around, the primary will be a vague memory. That seems impossible now, but check with me at the time.

In mid February posters were Googling to remember what late December was like, the MTP appearance when Hillary thought it would be over by Super Tuesday, February 5th. So that's an indication of how much changes in 5 or 6 weeks. By the general election we'll have hundreds of added variables and that's where the focus will be. Hillary supporters will come around. It's fashionable to try to make yourself stand out by haughtily insisting you'll never vote for so-and-so. The current polls in that regard are meaningless.

While casting a ballot for Obama, I'll still be convinced we blew it. As others have posted in this thread, I find him suffocatingly arrogant, and I think he'll prove less than we imagine. I mentioned this elsewhere but it earns repeating: if Obama is JFKesque, then how did Hillary win virtually every early debate from him, and many in decisive fashion?

I default to too many sports analogies but the comparison I would make is to offensive minded sports teams, like pantyhose passing teams in football or fast breaking, up tempo, no-defense teams in basketball. The public invariably falls for teams like that, adopting lousy application of priority and content to ignore the built-in vulnerabilities. Every time I think of Barack Obama, that's what he reminds me of.
