I just conducted a little experiment... conclusion: Obama is fucking brilliant!....
Edited on Fri Apr-11-08 10:46 PM by truthpusher
I have just seen the proof...

I saw the 'bitter' story start to pop up this afternoon about 1:00 mountain time on Right Wing websites. I went to DU to see what was posted at the time and what everybody thought about it.

There were no postings that I could find yet... so I thought of doing the unthinkable. As an Obama supporter, I thought I would conduct a little experiment: I posted a negative story about Obama... highlighting the most damaging context of the story, I posted the link in the GD primaries forum, without comment.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=5459134&mesg_id=5459134

My intention was to spread the story (doing my little part) as soon as possible. From what I could tell, this one had all the earmarks of being a major fuck-up on the part of Obama and something HRC and McSame would be all over... and I was right, they were.

Not only did the post in the GD forum hit 50 comments in about 35 minutes, I also saw several more negative posts as well as stories and references popping up all over the MSM making a 'HUGE' deal out of this one...man did Obama blow it!

I couldn't wait to see if and how he would get out of this one... but how long would it take him to respond? He would need to take a day or two to meet with his writers, consultants, pollsters... you name it, right? If he didn't take the time to craft a perfect response, he could easily blow the PA vote.

However, it only took him about 5 hours after the story broke BIG... to come up with this:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x5462241

If Obama was able to turn something this totally fucking disastrous around in 5 hours... you can only imagine what he could do for us...

he is definitely the one....

the one that will help us turn this mess around...

1. The thing is..... What he said originally wasn't even bad.....
... though I agree with you.... the Hillbots and the RW (same thing, nowadays) spun it in the worst possible light.

8. i think the truth is
If you make a really major blunder, your opponents do nothing.

If your opponents pounce on something you said immediately, it is really a nothing issue.

I think that's been proven over and over this season.

20. yup
Wright was bad for Obama. Nobody said anything for weeks about it, until it was totally out of the press.

When you fire off Republican talking points to the closest press hack, you know the story is nothing.

10. At first I thought "oh, no," as well, but when he elaborated...
... I realized it wasn't an "oh, no" moment at all. Something else had happened.

It seems people are so quick to want to jump on anything that is said that might can be perceived in a way that will "knock them out of the park." Granted, I am pro-Obama, and at first, I kind of cringed at what he said myself at how it would be perceived. But when I heard his speech and he elaborated on what he meant, I also realized we are all so used to being spoon-fed watered down pablum that when we get some meat to chew on we don't quite know what to do with it. That's why I admire Obama and realize he is head and shoulders above HC or MC. They're so stuck in the same rut that they've dug by spinning wheels over and over and over again. He gave us meat to gnaw on when he gave his race speech and there were a few who just couldn't seem to "get it" and sadly still need to be spoon fed the pablum. It was a speech that was supposed to bring out the adult in us all. And I see this issue on bitterness is going to be the same way. He stretches our understanding and is bold enough to not wallow in that same rut. It will be a huge, tragic loss if this country kills the opportunity to give him a chance.
That's my opinion.

21. I am curious to see if the country is up to this...
...I think the fact that the world is listening to a man who talks about bitterness and refuge in hateful agenda in America, is great. America is on the verge of some big changes... if they/we choose against more of the same. Our country is full of thoughtful people that know when they are getting fucked over.

What Obama was talking about was choices and discourse. Because the folks in 'small town' America are being hit hard and have been hit hard for decades... they become disillusioned. They loose faith in leadership... they distrust people in power. You can only be screwed so many times in a row before it starts to hurt...bad. And when people are hurting and when people are pissed... they have open ears for just about anything that helps them connect with that anger in them. Because much of these folks have been written off by much off the progressive side and embraced by the right... they get their fill of guns, denominational religion, racism, nationalism (the bad kind), homophobia and misogyny.

I can't say that I know exactly what is going on with what Obama is saying... but I do think I am grasping the spirit of what he is saying. To me, it doesn't feel at all elitist or hurtful... it feels compassionate and it feels truthful.

25. ill give it a shot
for the most part, except in the most obvious and grievious cases, obama has not let race become an over riding issue of his campaign.
he has addressed it,when he has been more or less forced too,and most eloquently, because he sees it as more of a device of division
this event by bill clinton was planned, as was the obvious veiled racist undertones, all carefully crafted to enrage racial sensitivities.
but
it needs obama to make a big deal of it to have any life at all.
if he does not object there is no story
if they create a story of it he has the high ground by being able to say "its no big deal your blowing it out of proportion"
so his best move is to ignore it and go to real business

i myself feel the use of the word "bitter" in obamas recent speech was also intentional
his opponents dont understand the bitterness towards old school ward heeler politicians like themselves
they rose to the bait and he turned it into an advantage within 5 hours
i watched hillary and john mccain being openly laughed at on cnn while wolf blitzer sat there looking dazed
without a doubt he is ready on day 1

13. "It's 3 AM, and your campaign advisers are safe and asleep..."
"...but there's a phone in your house, and it's ringing. You said something today that your political enemies have figured out how to twist and bend out of all proportion and perspective to make you look bad. And they've finally decided the time is right to spring it on an unsuspecting public.

"If you were running for president, would you know how to answer that phone?

"If you were picking a president, who would you want answering that phone? Because if they could answer THAT phone, wouldn't waking up in the White House to deal with a really major crisis be a relative piece of cake for them?"

"Vote for Barack Obama. Because when the shit hits the fan, no one's better at deflecting it than he is."

14. He's learned from Kerry's mistake.
Now that he's mastered damage control and counter-attacks, he needs to learn how to control the MSM narrative like Hillary does. Only then will he be able to defeat her.

28. No the meme out there is he dissed small town people
Give McCain and Clinton credit. For political junkies, you're right, but for everyone else, you're wrong. Obama is brilliant, but he commits his share of gaffes. The good thing is his campaign people, unlike many of his supporters, are honest about his mistakes, and do their best to manage them. For Obama to win the GE, his supporters are going to have to stop deluding themselves and recognize when he makes a mistake, so that they can better deal with it, instead of being caught up in his brilliance.
