On Democrats and Democratic Presidents...
Edited on Sat Apr-12-08 09:30 PM by catnhatnh
There have been damn few in the last 50 years...4 to be exact...one assassinated, one buried by a war, one cheated by lies, ridicule, and treasonous hostage deals, and one impeached...20 of the last 50 years and just one for two terms while the Republican's had three....
The Republicans have two living Presidents and Democrat's could easily argue that but for the strangest example of jurisprudence since the inception of the Republic we would have two.For my purposes I will include Al Gore as one of my Presidents....so in my memory there were four Democratic presidents...

Many Democrats revere Bill Clinton and I do not.For any Democrat under 70 years of age he looks like our lifetime winner. He balanced the budget and made the economy bloom (he made the trains run on time). But he continued deregulation and birthed NAFTA....In short nothing coming from his administration was "progressive", but lets look at the other three...

JFK....The "New Frontier" and a commitment to the moon...a great promise cut short after he ordered the disengagement of US troops from Vietnam...
LBJ...the "Great Society" and civil rights accomplishments.
James Earl Carter...First President to decry reliance on oil and cheap energy-a harbinger of the future...
.
Many Republicans revere Reagan, a fraud and proven liar. For any Republican under 70 he looks like their life-long winner.Engaged in treason to urge Iran to hold Americans hostage to help his election, ran death squads throughout Central America and demonized the poor.
Richard M. Nixon....enemies lists and office tapes, burglars and dirty tricks.
Gerald Ford...Pardons Nixon to end our "Long National Nightmare"-on his deathbed admits he only did it because Nixon was a close personal friend.
GHW Bush...Iran-Contra felon and string puller.Super-spook with possible ties to Kennedy assassination.

Which brings us back to Dough, Dough, Dough, Dough.....and how it was used to subvert a national election, cause the jurisprudential oddity that installed the now declared worst president in US history, and our current nightmare....I'll say no more about Republicans, but let us look at the surviving Democrats...
But that leaves us three surviving "Democratic" "Presidents"...
James Earl Carter....Philanthropist and supporter (and manual laborer) for Habitat for Humanity.
Al Gore...Philanthropist and Nobel Laureate and oscar winner for raising awareness of global warming.
William J. Clinton...lecturer, free trade supporter, confidant of Bush the 1st, amassed a fortune of over 75 million since his presidency.
It comes down to this-we have not had an untrammeled progressive in the White House given two term in my lifetime, and now in Barrack Obama we have a chance to see this at a time we most need one. He's not yet FDR, nor perhaps even John Edwards but he is the best hope we have for a President to grow into our needs.
And I support him.
