Judy Woodruff just called Kerry "the Democratic Insurgent" |
|
Slip of the tongue? Somehow I always thought that the drunken tongue-lashing she and her husband (Al Hunt) got from Junior in a restaurant once upon a time would chill her on the conservatives.
I guess not.
Boy, talk about "partisan politics". I suppose the next step will be "Democratic Guerrilla" or "Democratic Terrorist".

1. "insurgent" isn't necessarily a negative term |
|
Edited on Tue Jun-15-04 02:40 PM by drumwolf
It has the connotation of rebelling against an occupying power, which is not an entirely inaccurate way to view the Bush regime.

Other connotations are: violence, rising up in an illegal way and engaging in irregular warfare, the latter being generally regarded as dirty pool and deserving of death. (Real men wear a uniform and stand up and fight in the open; rotters and cads hide in the shadows and ambush people.)
It also connotes being out of the norm, and thus a philosophical assault on the common values of our exalted democracy. Insurgency is anti-civilization, and although not as loaded a term as some, still pretty bad.
On the good side, there's the underdog connotation of the word, but even this is mitigated by the essential immorality of it all.
I could swallow a denotation argument somewhat, but the overwhelming weight of the various connotations are pretty damned derisive. Sorry for the semantics snottiness, but the devil's in the details, and these days, the picture's pretty rococo.

5. Not as bad as Tweety last night. He was absolutely terrible. |
|
He had journalist from the Nation on and some conservative ass who had a really high voice. Everytime the con would speak he would sit in the background with his "right" interruptions.
Every time the journalist from the Nation spoke, he wouldn't let her get a word in edge wise. Not only was it rude, it was so unprofessional I finally had to turn it off.
I refuse to watch him unless a really good guest is on, like Al. When the good guest is gone, he gets turned off.

17. He always does that to Van den Heuvel |

She wasn't on there for a long time, and I thought she was boycotting him.
She really shouldn't grace him with her presence if he's going to be such a jerk with her.

Woodruff is discraceful.
Agree that "insurgent" = killing American soldiers.
Once saw Judyjudyjudy actually correct her language with the explaination that the Bushies wanted her to use another word. Unbelievable!! Journalism? naw.
