Robert Reich endorses Obama; Hillary represents "mean-spirited, negative politics"
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/4/18/1496/98690/213/498119

So what's changed? I asked Reich.

"I saw the ads" — the negative man-on-street commercials that the Clinton campaign put up in Pennsylvania in the wake of Obama's bitter/cling comments a week ago — "and I was appalled, frankly. I thought it represented the nadir of mean-spirited, negative politics. And also of the politics of distraction, of gotcha politics. It's the worst of all worlds.

135. Does that matter?
The whole problem is that Hillary's campaign has spiraled down into uncharted and murky territory. I don't think we should be throwing mean-spirited comments around, especially if it has nothing to do with the race or the issues.

Grantcart made a slam against Robert Reich and MHiggens responded because a remark like that is what turns people off, supposedly, to Hillary and that Reich is no Judas. Higgins assumed grantcart was a Hillary supporter and he is not.

From what I read and saw on videos when Bill was running for President in 1991, Hillary went over to Bill in the library at Yale and introduced herself because Bill would stare at her instead of ask her name.

4. Hillary -- and many of her supporters --
don't believe that people actually move away from Hillary as a result of the negative stuff. But here's someone who was in the Clinton administration, actually endorsed and said he would support her, who felt strongly enough to switch to Obama.

Kennedy and Dodd should have been a clue. I don't understand why her campaign has continued to use this approach when the fallout is obvious.

The disillusionment that many of us feel toward the Clintons.

I could never fathom my admiration, particularly for Bill, to be so heavily swayed by their negative tactics.

I still hope we can collectively forgive and move on once Obama is awarded the nomination.

Really, a remarkable turn of the table considering his history within the Clinton administration.

17. Robert Reich hates the Clintons
Ever since Bill 'lied to him' about the Lewinski affair.

The whole Publican slime machine along with their media complicits, rabidly grasping at anything they could find to take the Clintons down, and petty little Robert, who would basically be nobody if it weren't for Bill Clinton, resented that Bill lied >to him<.

Reich has been bitter and unforgiving for !!twelve years!! over it. What a guy, huh? He is "the nadir" of petty, sanctimonious turncoats who comes up far, far shorter in personal character than he does in physical stature.

in the PA polls. His support lately, however, sounds "soft" at best. I don't understand how the Clinton supporters here don't get the message that people like Robert Reich & Bill Richardson know the Clintons intimately, and there's a reason why they didn't endorse them right away. I suspect a lot more SD's have remained neutral out of fear.

29. Team Obama are the lowest-road character assassins we've had in the Dem party in 30 years
Edited on Fri Apr-18-08 03:32 AM by Tactical Progressive
Getting petty Robert Reich to do their 'dirty' work for them is par for the course.

Obama is a human slime machine.

Unfortunately, that only works on fellow Democrats. When the Publicans start pointing out what a nasty piece of work he is with his low-road smear tactics, Obama's high-road pretense will burn off in no time at all. And when that happens, the rest of his phony resume and personality will be mauled daily. The Penn debate will be a tea-party, with cupcakes, compared to what happens after that.

It's one of the very first things Publicans will do. Hillary can't because the media attacks her every time she goes after him. (Had Hillary gotten one of her endorsers to call Obama "mean-spirited" it would have been a week of media savagery against her from every conceivable angle.) Publicans have no such problem. The media will only protect Obama to smear Hillary. They won't even try to protect him from Publicans, and even if they wanted to they couldn't in the least.

Once Obama is exposed as a low-road smear merchant, not to mention a fairly congenital liar, it's straight downhill.

Team Obama are the lowest-road character assassins we've had in the Dem party in 30 years - like you are doing to Reich? or like Carvill and Bill did to Richardson? Like Hillary tried (and failed) to do with the "not ready to be President" crap? Like Team Obama mentions Norman Hsu at every oportunity - not?

Getting petty Robert Reich to do their 'dirty' work for them is par for the course - Are you implying Reich was blackmailed or paid? Are you saying that he was not a part of Team Clinton? Are you saying that Reich (and Richardson) are lying?

Obama is a human slime machine - any evidence? or is that concept beneath your dignity? Any examples? Anything? Anyone? Bueller? Beuller?

Unfortunately, that only works on fellow Democrats. So it's a good thing that Obama has avoided the stygian depths of the Clinton Campaign.

Once Obama is exposed as a low-road smear merchant, not to mention a fairly congenital liar, it's straight downhill - and you're going to be there to help the GOP do it. Again examples? evidence? Pretty fluffy pussy cats?

Just take your tabs and wake up on Jan 20 in time for the swearing in of President Barack Obama

110. So, what you're saying is,
in this Democratic primary we are faced with choosing between two people who are "human slime machines" and "congenital liars"?

Because I know Hillary is.

But even if Obama is also, at least I like his approach to politics, and his policies, better.

(I hope it's obvious to my fellow Obama fans that I don't think he is the nasty things the poster claims. But then I'm not all knowing. The point is, it's already established that Clinton is, so if Obama is too, we just have to move on to other criteria - and he still wins.)

116. You're way off. Hillary hasn't even been picked on yet because
the republicans would like her to win so they can go against her. Obama's campaign didn't waste their time digging up Clinton's dirt because she has been digging up her own (Bosnia, insinuating Obama can't win because he is black and her negative campaining). Obama's dirt isn't even "real" dirt and if this is all they can come up with it will be smooth sailing for him to the presidency. Everyone I have met who supports Obama are simply amazing people!

like the character assignations of Joe Wilson and Gen. Wesley Clark because they endorsed Clinton? Both sides are willing to throw anyone under the bus regardless of what they have accomplished, pathetic really.

BTW - super delegates are going to start breaking, Dean told them to do so. And it does probably mean the beginning of the end for Hillary, but unless we forgive and forget and come together, we are toast in Nov.

93. There is a vast difference between the actions of ones supporters,
and the actions of the candidates themselves. The Hillary camp continues to make all their judgements of Obama based on what anyone and everyone else has said or done. There is nothing that has Obama has said or done with the exception of "bitter-gate". That was their first morsel, literally the only shred of a misstep they could find, and you see how assuredly they clung to it like vultures. Why? There's nothing else.

Do people really not see the difference between the actions and words of a candidate vs. the action and words of one's supporters?

Edited on Fri Apr-18-08 02:20 PM by zulchzulu

New Orleans - AP - James Carville has responded to Robert Reich's harsh criticism of Hillary Clinton and endorsement of Barack Obama with this comment:

"I've known Bobbie since the 90s and he is one short mother f#cker. I took a shower with him once at the Y after playin' b-ball and his Mr. Bubba was the size of a crawdaddy. Damn, I was gonna take him up to space with my wife in our private spaceship once we made some serious coin sellin' flipped condos in the Big Easy with my buds from Halliburton. He's a traitor 'cause he knows once you join Billy's Krewe, y'all never leave. Let's just say I better not see his little ass at Commander's uptown."

119. So what does he think about the constant e-mails the Obama campaign
sent to the media about Bosnia?

This argument--that she is mean spirited is not even accurate. The facts show that this is a relatively mild campaign, and that behind the scenes Obama and his crew are terribly dirty, sending stuff the media constantly.

So, the question becomes, what is really going on here? She is no dirtier than he is--in fact, he used the dirtiest tactic I have ever seen, when he shouted "Racism!"

So, what is really going on?

Plus I've seen your posts and responses to them. Like I said, you won't accept the truth. People have offered it up to you but you continue to defend an out and out liar who is breaking up the party, and who actually said that the Republican candidate is better equipped to be president than her Dem opponent.

It's not the media. It's you, and those like you, who are distorting Clinton's actions and continuing to support someone who has only her own personal ambitions and interests at heart. The first step is to admit it. And you know until you do that no one can help you.

I know you see it. It's impossible not to. One day you'll fall out of love and the honeymoon will be over and you'll read the history books and see how it really was and wonder how you got duped.

And all you're doing now is that tired old right wing game of attacking them with what your own candidate is really doing. It's well known what Hillary is saying to the SDs behind the scenes. And for one who claims no one is giving any answers you sure are throwing about a lot of accusations with no facts to back them up.

146. Your "truth" is ...not.
You suggest that I will not accept the “truth.” And the “truth” according to you is that Clinton is a liar who is breaking up the party. I disagree with your premise. Clinton is no more a liar than Obama. But, for some reason, you choose to ignore his lies and highlight hers. The question, that you--time and again—refuse to answer, is why? I think it is because you do not care about lies. I believe it is because you know that both sides are doing it and that it is all politics. I think you are doing it to continue the attack on Clinton and help your choice of a candidate to win. You are playing politics. You are part of the divide.

You suggest that it is not the media, and that it is me. That makes me laugh and you even talk about “her own personal ambitions,” That is a give-away that you have been listening to the propaganda and believing the right-wing lies. It is also sexist. You label her run for Presidency as a negative characteristic because she is a female who is gaining power, and then slant the same characteristic for Obama, as powerful, and all that is good.

It also makes me laugh that you actually are in outrage over the way the media asked questions of Obama, when they have been attacking Clinton non-stop.

And you characterize her as negative, when you ignore the negative campaigning that Obama has done. And then, of course the coop-de-grais—you call me a right winger and suggest that I am attacking you for what my candidate is really doing. Why don’t you respond to the FACT that Obama and his campaign have been sending e-mails to the media to attempt to get them to focus on Bosnia? That is negative campaigning. That is not focusing on the issues. That is “gotcha” politics. Why are you continuing to ignore it?

Reality bites for Obama supporters. So, you live in you own little world and continue to condemn anyone who does not agree with you.
