Finally interacted with some Hillary supporters today. They are crazy! Calling names, told this nice young Obama supporter to "fuck off", etc. It was bad. The guys were reasonable, but the women...wow. I don't know if they viewed me as some sort of gender traitor or something, but they were awful. Not a pleasant experience. I guess that I've been overly spoiled by the friendly territory I work in!

...people like us aren't the ones primarily responsible for the figures. It's harder to get all celebratory about who got the most lobbyists and special interest groups to throw money at them.

Obama should turn this into a major event every month. "Hey guys, look what YOU did this month! Let the celebration commence..."

77. For example, payroll deductions normally carry over
If you have a payroll issued on the last day of the month, your federal withholding is due something like 3 business days later -- which is to say, not until the next month. There would also be state taxes, local taxes (which could be for the entire Jan-Mar quarter), possibly health insurance and other benefits, all of them showing as payables as of that end-of-the-month cutoff point.

Also, when you do your accounting on an accrual basis, you count expenses as payable on the day they're incurred. So if you purchase an item or service on the 15th of the month, get a bill on the 25th, and pay it on the 5th of the next month, that also shows up as an end-of-month payable. Credit card expenses, of course, get pushed ahead even further, so you could have as much as two months worth showing as payables.

That's why the campaigns get three weeks before having to file -- to give them time enough for all those bills to show up in the mail. Effectively, then, the Obama campaign is likely to have no actual debt at all, nothing that's past due, just some March expenses that weren't required to be paid until early April.

44. So what happens
if a candidate doesn't have the money to pay debts? I notice Kucinich has 26k in hand, and 759k owed. And Giuliani has 216K on hand, and owes 3.4 million.

I also note Ron Paul has 5.1 Million on hand, and owes nothing? McCain only has 11.5 million, with 707k in debt.

Or am I misreading this?

50. I don't know if there is a standard answer for "what happens,"
but I do know that I have frequently donated after an election or primary to national, state, and local candidates who did not win, in order to help settle their bills.

I see it as a partnership - they worked hard to represent my ideals on the campaign trail, so I (along with other die-hard supporters) stepped up to donate again to close the books. That being said, I would not feel so happy to assist if I felt like my money had been misspent.

83. Hey!!!
Well, I guess it makes me a Big Donor since I live in Wyoming and contribute anything at all to the Obama campaign. Maybe I can get invited to dinner? I'll head right over to the web site and toss in a few more hundred bucks, I'm not at the limit yet. Heck, if three or four of us somewhere in the Big Square State in the Middle can chip in maybe we can get off the list!!

63. Elton John fundraising concert to be investigated for FEC violation
http://www.judicialwatch.org/judicial-watch-calls-fec-investigate-elton-john-s-fundraising-concert-behalf-hillary-clinton-s-presi

Judicial Watch Calls on FEC to Investigate Elton John’s Fundraising Concert on Behalf of Hillary Clinton’s Presidential Campaign

“Sir Elton John is not a citizen of the United States and is therefore prohibited from making any contribution to Senator Clinton’s presidential campaign.”

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, announced today that it filed a formal complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) related to a fundraising concert by musician Sir Elton John on behalf of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. Elton John, a foreign national, is prohibited by federal law from making any contribution to a federal, state or local election campaign.

“Recent news reports suggest that Hillary Clinton and Hillary Clinton for President have accepted an in-kind contribution from a foreign national, Sir Elton John, in contravention of federal electon laws,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton stated in an April 14 letter to the Office of the General Counsel for the FEC. “On behalf of Judicial Watch and its supporters, I hereby request that the FEC investigate this matter.”

According to a press release issued by the Clinton campaign, the expressed intent of the concert was to raise funds for Hillary’s campaign for president. In the release, Elton John is quoted as saying, “I'm excited to support Hillary by performing at what will be a truly memorable night.”

Press reports also show that Sir Elton John, on March 17, 2008, through the Clinton campaign, sent out a mass email announcing the concert and soliciting support. The Elton John concert took place on April 9, 2008 and raised more than $2.5 million (from the sale of 5,000 tickets) for Hillary Clinton and Hillary Clinton for President.

However, according to 2 U.S.C. § 441e, “Contributions and donations by foreign nationals,” it is illegal for any foreign national to “make a contribution or donation of money or other thing of value…in connection with a Federal, State or local election.” The Washington Times reported March 27, 2008, that a “1981 FEC decision prohibited a foreign national artist from donating his services in connection with fundraising for a U.S. Senate campaign.”

“It looks as if Elton John, a foreign national, gave a valuable, in-kind contribution to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, which is prohibited by law. The FEC and other authorities need to take appropriate action and investigate Hillary Clinton, her campaign, and Elton John,” stated Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.

90. It's settling to know some right wing assholes still hate the Clintons...
After the last few weeks of the RW media shilling for her and the Scaife endorsement I was expecting a pig to fly by my window. Good to know there is still some order in the world.

113. Question about the foreign national law/donations
According to this thread:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=5596908&mesg_id=5596908

She charged people going to her rally 10 bucks to enter..how does she know the citizenship (or non-citizen?) status?? Where does that 10 dollars go?? Is it going towards facility use (since she seems to suck at paying those if you go by her previous FEC lists!)

79. Top 5 Debts:
1) Message Audience & Presentation - 138,435.10
2) Verizon - 108,777.85
3) Premiere Global Services - 102,821.38
4) The Strategy Group - 71,525.41
5) Continental Colorcraft - 46,156.34

I only see one non-profit at first glance on the list of debts owed (Kaukauna Area School District -2,757.60). That would be from February, and I'm sure it will be paid, as all the other debts from the previous report seem to be.

Very clean, outstanding report. Team Obama have been wise stewards of our money.

108. You know she is pissed
Having it come out right before a primary day. No way to run and hide from this.
Just a reminder to you all...her last FEC list was released the morning of March 21st...a day after the March 20th "due date". Even that won't do her any good, still puts it in the final 24 hour news cycle.

Unless she has friends at the FEC and it gets delayed til, oh, Wednesday morning???
