Why is it that when white voters support Clinton, it's because Obama has "failed to reach them?" |
|
but when black voters vote for Obama, it's because they're voting in a bloc based on race?
I'm finding it very interesting watching some of the coverage and listening to the pundits (usually white men, of course) discussing why "Obama is having trouble reaching blue collar white voters." Yet they hardly ever discuss why Hillary Clinton is having trouble reaching black voters - and when they do, it's almost always in the context of assuming the black voters are voting for Obama because he's black, not because of any failure or shortcoming on Clinton's part.
Just wondering.

1. Because we already know the answer. |

David Axlerod did such a great job convincing black voters the Clintons are racists, Clinton will be lucky to take 30% of the black vote.
Shame on him!

9. Thanks for posting the pic. |

It says very quickly what all this talk of "regular" voters and who loses what kind of voters boils down to, IMO.

Hillary had me and LOST me. Why has she lost 70+% of the African-American vote? Why has she failed to reach these voters?

in their self-congratulatory "Conversation on Race". They discussed how African American politicians are always expected to transcend their race, and White politicians never have to do the same thing because African Americans voters are also expected to transcend their race since "whiteness" (that's how they decided to eloquently term it, haha)is something to be aspired to. It's a point that is pretty obvious in academic circles I guess. The pundits always justify this by saying that african American voters tend to vote consistently democratic, while white voters tend to be swing voters. But it did piss me off when the Mississippi primary made all of the pundits almost point to Obama and say "Ooooh, racial divide. Big problem, buddy.". I loved the montage that the daily show showed the next day on it.
