Poll question: Do you agree with the Osama Bin Laden Ad that Clinton is running against a fellow Democrat? |
|
Edited on Mon Apr-21-08 03:17 PM by rndmprsn
pretty simple question...
and if you vote "yes" please have the courage to explain why you think that way to the great majority who dis-agree's with you and your candidate.

3. It should remove any doubt about Hillary's "fitness" to become the Democratic Nominee |
|
since she's using Rethug slime tactics, it should be clear by now Obama's the only one fit for the nomination.

7. I'm not thrilled by it. |
|
But in a way, I do want a candidate who will do whatever it takes to win.
I want a candidate who will do whatever it takes to beat John McCain because there's too much at stake.

8. thanks for the comment...i guess its partially an issue of trust |
|
for me...i trust that Obama will win, as he has stymied the almighty clinton campaign from almost moment one...we obama supporters have watched how Obama handles himself and his campaign and we are rightly impressed, and from this feeling we have faith and confidence in Obama's ability to beat Mcclame and win the presidency...
and we know he will make us proud too.

10. OK, I voted Yes, because the ad isn't what you said it is. |
|
Cripes, I thought at the very least Obama's picture would be thrown in with Bin Ladin's given the level of upset being expressed toward this ad, but I just viewed the ad. So pictures associated with about 10 of America's major crisis points since WWII get flashed across the screen, including Bin Ladin, followed by midwestern floods and Hurricane Katrina, and this is supposed to be some really evil ad?
Obama is not even mentioned by name, just the comments "you have to be ready for everything" and "if you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen". It's fucking true. Both Clinton and Obama are running for President of the United States, it's not an easy job. It is open to debate whether Clinton or Obama is better prepared to deal with emergencies should they happen, but to scream TERRA TERRA TERRA! over this ad is stupid. Things do go wrong in the world. Every President tends to get hit with a major crisis, if not two or three. It is a legitimate aspect of the "job interview" who will be able to handle an unexpected crisis better. This was not a focus on Bin Ladin, and after 911 to not include some reference to terrorism in the context of the broad range of challenges America has faced would have been foolish and dishonest.
This was not not fake raising of the security color code, and it wasn't a picture of Obama morphing into Osama either. It starts with Pearl Harbor and 911 was the largest attack on American soil since Pearl Harbor. Obama wasn't attacked once in this ad, he wasn't even mentioned. Security issues are real even if they do often get overblown. I just got off a plane the other day and you still have to put your tiny toothpaste tubes in quart sized plastic bags.
If this ad was what you described in your OP I would have voted No.

13. Tom, you're usually a very smart fellow, but you're missing the point here |
|
no one is saying she's morphing Obama into Osama. People are pointing to the pointless fear mongering, and the implication that ONLY she can face the terrorist threat. I'm sure you'll recall how Bush and Rove used that EXACT SAME ARGUMENT against Kerry?
I have never put you on ignore, because your points are usually well-reasoned and made politely.
But honestly, I think you're just missing something, or else I am.

But look at how much stretching you needed to do just now to point out to me your concern. Right off the bat Obama wasn't mentioned. It's possible for someone to view that ad and think; "that's right Hillary, that's why you won't get my vote. When the heat was up in the Senate kitchen you voted for the IWR".
The ad is a check list of major challenges the U.S. has faced. All of them really happened, it is past tense in focus, so in that way it is pretty reality based. We here blasted Bush over his handling of Katrina, over the incompetency of his Administration. It isn't fear mongering to point out that Hurricanes happen, and the media has been talking about the next big earthquake due to hit California a lot lately also. One could call that fear mongering too but it is also reality. Of course Clinton thinks she can handle the pressures of the job better than Obama, duh. They are competing for Christ's sake. I've been to job interviews where I had to posture that I was the best thing since sliced bread. It's up to the job interviewer to decide whether the other guy is better. That's the public.
This ad was NOT focused on Bin Ladin and terrorism, it was focused on the need to elect someone up to the entire job of being President. Obama is up to having that debate, he accused Clinton of helping drive the bus into the ditch. He says he has the better judgment. American voters have every right to want a President who can face down a Krushchev if it ever came to that again. It is a legitimate part of the job being sought.

21. I'll have to respectfully disagree, because I do see your points |
|
but I think your points don't apply: you're assuming the highest road interpretation of her intentions, and I'm insisting her ads are not that.
In other words, what you're saying would be a valid argument EXCEPT for the absolute lowest road taken by the clinton campaign thus far. I'm taking into account past practice, and you're putting her on a pedestal first, and then arguing from there. From that POV, what you say makes sense. Its too darn bad your candidate is not worth your support nor is she starting on the pedestal.
I realize you'll disagree, but that is how I see it.
