8. Mitt doesn't do anything for him in Michigan. Mitt is popular with Michigan Republicans only.
Did you care to look at polling on Independents and Democrats. No cross-over for Mitt.

11. Exactly, says this lifelong Michigander.
Romney does nothing for McCain in Michigan. Michigan is going Dem. Take it to the bank.

12. Lieberman, for all his flaws, is still pro-choice. Not going to happen.
I wouldn't be surprised if McCain picks Huckabee, so he can snag the knuckle-dragger creationist wing of the GOP. But Romney is probably more likely.

18. McCain is moving right, needs to hold middle is my only thought... but you could be right
and i know he is pro-choice but the right LOVES lieberman... i mean LOVES him.

even the AA repub pundit lady on CNN said she secretly hoped for lieberman... dont know her name off hand tho.

22. Yeah, but the pundits never get it. They thought Rudy had a chance.
They continually underestimate the degree to which the fundy loonies pull the strings in the GOP, even as they overstate the power that the so-called "values voter" wields in the general electorate.

I will eat my hat if the GOP puts anyone pro-choice on the ticket. Seriously. That goes for Lieberman, that goes for Condi, that goes for Rudy, that goes for Colin Powell, etc.

28. the fundie base is skeptical enough about McCain, They will never stomach Lieberman
Edited on Tue Apr-22-08 06:30 PM by onenote
It will not and cannot happen. McCain doesn't have the power to simply push through anyone he wants as his VP. If the fundie/anti-choice wing of the party, which makes up a sizable part of the repub convention delegation, got wind that their 70 something candidate was thinking about making a pro-choice guy a heartbeat away, there would be a firestorm. Its not going to happen. You can take it to the bank. Lieberman doesn't get McCain more than he costs him.

10. You have got to be shitting me.
First, not young. He's 60. Second, unpopular and unsuccessful governor. Thirdly, he comes from a sector of the economy that has caused the current mess: Wall Street finance.

15. "Young?" I don't think so. He's 61. Economic dunderhead. Nice hair, though.
61 isn't old, but it sure ain't young. He's an empty suit. McCain already has Utah locked up; Romney won't win him Michigan or Massachusetts.

Look elsewhere. Look for a neocon.

5. On paper, Romney is best positioned. But there's bad blood between them.
McCain would really have to have his back up against the wall before he nominated a guy he hates as his understudy.

of conservatives scared of McCain and Huckabee.

6. Not a bad strategy for him
On one hand, he has all the traits that conservatives like and McCain needs their vote. On the other hand, you'd think adding a Mormon to your ticket would turn a lot of conservatives away.

9. Mitt will be the keynoter at the Maine GOP convention
Granted, he "won" the non-binding caucuses so he probably owes them the visit but I wondered why he'd bother if he wasn't running for something. Maybe he was the only one available.

13. I disagree. I think the FLDS polygamist scandal hurts Mitt.
Even though Romney isn't a fundamentalist mormon, the present scandal will affect voters' perception of a Mormon candidate, and surely McCain will consider that.

17. OK, I bookmarked it for you, and you may be right. But here are some other thoughts.
That whole sex-abuse creepy FLDS scandal, doesn't help Mittens chances, fairly or not.

It will depend on who OUR nominee is.

If it's Obama, I can see McCain looking for a strong, moderate female. That would pretty much ensure a McCain presidency.
