Clinton frames win as sign of strength

http://news.yahoo.com/s/politico/20080423/pl_politico/9811;_ylt=Ane8GI7nGQztmAcB96m9E4qs0NUE

Ben Smith Wed Apr 23, 5:38 AM ET

PHILADELPHIA -- Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton celebrated another must-win victory Tuesday night in Pennsylvania, with a convincing win over Sen. Barack Obama that she sought to frame not just as a sign of her strength but of Obama's abiding weakness.

"Maybe the question ought to be, 'Why can't he close the deal?'" Clinton said Tuesday morning outside a polling place in Conshohocken, Pa.
……………..

"You made your voices heard, and because of you, the tide is turning," she said Tuesday night.
………………

But Clinton's victory ensured that the primary will continue, and the results revealed many of the same patterns of strength and weakness that have been present in many of the Democratic contests. Indeed, Pennsylvania seemed to be a close replay of the March 5 Ohio primary, which Clinton won by a slightly wider margin. Clinton won heavily among working-class and older white voters, among women and among Catholics.

……….
But Obama's defeat marked a departure from modern nomination fights, in which the media-christened front-runner typically cruises to victory. Clinton's campaign immediately used her victory to argue to the superdelegates -- the party leaders who hold the balance of votes at the Democratic National Convention -- that Obama can't win in November.

"There's beginning to be a subtle shift of psychology of a lot of the uncommitted supers," said Clinton spokesman Mo Elleithee. " are beginning to wonder why Obama has been unable to win this thing despite all the advantages he has."
…………….
The demographic patterns in the exit polls have grown familiar, with Clinton winning the working class white "Reagan Democrats" and Catholics who are seen as key to victory in the general election.

……….

Firsts

Hillary Rodham Clinton has been in the public eye for some 40 years, her face one of the best-known in the world. She has been both admired and reviled with great intensity. She is a First Lady full of other firsts - the first student to speak at her college commencement; the first First Lady to become a United States Senator; the first woman to be treated seriously as a candidate for president of the United States. Here she speaks at her 60th birthday celebration at the Beacon Theater in New York, with former President Bill Clinton, and their daughter Chelsea, listening. (Photo: STAN HONDA/AFP/Getty Images)

Here she is with classmates in a 1964 yearbook photo, when she was a junior – and junior class vice-president.

Clinton's father, Hugh Rodham, who had a textile business, was "a staunch conservative," her mother, homemaker Dorothy Rodham, "more liberal." Clinton started out as a supporter of Barry Goldwater, but became a Democrat in college. Here her parents fuss over her in a New York hotel room during the Democratic National Convention, in July, 1992. (Photo: AP Photo/Ron Frehm)

Clinton recently returned to her alma mater, Wellesley College. "In so many ways, this all-women's college prepared me to compete in the all-boys club of presidential politics," she told the students. In 1969, president of the student government, she delivered a commencement address - "We're searching for more immediate, ecstatic and penetrating mode of living" – that led to her first TV, newspaper and magazine coverage. Mother, Children's Advocate

Clinton gave birth to Chelsea on February 27, 1980, while First Lady of Arkansas. Her primary focus had been on children's issues. She did research at the Yale Child Study Center, and worked as first staff attorney for the Children's Defense Fund. The title of first book, in 1995, was based on the African proverb "It takes a village to raise a child". (Photo: AP Photo/Donald R. Broyles)

Either Dem should win in November, so lets' nominate the front runner.

18. Nobody can cancel the remaining primaries.
Heck, the GOP is still holding primaries even though they already have a presumptive nominee. So by all means let the people vote, but in the end Obama will have more pledged delegates. So he should get the nomination since either Dem should win in November. If Obama can win in November and he also has more pledged delegates, then what possible rationale could there be to deny him the nomination?

As a quasi-psychic, I'm going out on a limb here. IMO, there will not be a President McCain simply because when push comes to shove, McCain will be perceived as 'too old' by the majority of voters.

I belittling the candidates choice to use her grandfather as proof that she's "down with the blue collars". Especially since her dad wasn't blue collar, she had to go back a generation.

You are so deep in at this point that anything anyone says is an automatic red flag for you, no matter what they say. I actually bothered to correct the poster who claimed she lied about her father. More than any Hillary supporter did for her, yet you felt the need to challenge something I said, that I didn't actually say. Nice. Next time you debunk the lie.

I was correcting another poster and giving my opinion on what she did. Funny how you see this as me but not her, trying to score political points when I was responding to something she said. Her comments were just "history", is that right? She wasn't using her grandfather to score political points with the blue collar workers. That wasn't her that was me, does that about sum it up?

Like I said, next time do your own fucking leg work. You couldn't even take the time to accurately correct the poster who claimed your candidate was lying. All you seem to have time for is imaginary slights. Get a grip.

THAT is the clearest case of PROJECTION I've ever seen, speaking of PSYCHOLOGY:

Why WHO has been unable to win this thing despite all the advantages SHE has? Hillary is PROJECTING her own situation and her OWN inability to win onto Obama.

She is obviously a very disturbed and confused woman, not to mention a narcissist.

20. Where's the picture of the 12 year old girl she said wanted to be raped
In terms of what's good for the little girl? It would have been hell on the victim. But that wasn't Hillary's problem."

The victim, now 46, told Newsday that she was raped by Taylor, denied that she wanted any relationship with him and blamed him for contributing to three decades of severe depression and other personal problems.

"It's not true, I never sought out older men - I was raped," the woman said in an interview in the fall. Newsday is withholding her name as the victim of a sex crime.

With all the anguish she'd felt over the case in the years since, there was one thing she never realized - that the lawyer for the man she reviles was none other than Hillary Rodham Clinton.

...

"I have been informed that the complainant is emotionally unstable with a tendency to seek out older men and to engage in fantasizing," wrote Rodham, without referring to the source of that allegation. "I have also been informed that she has in the past made false accusations about persons, claiming they had attacked her body."

...

Rodham's fluency on the topic is evident in her filings. "I have ... been told by an expert in child psychology that children in early adolescence tend to exaggerate or romanticize sexual experience and that adolescents with disorganized families, such as the complainant's, are even more prone to such behavior," she wrote in her July 28 affidavit. "She exhibits an unusual stubbornness and temper when she does not get her way."

Clinton says she can win White House for Democrats

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080423/pl_nm/usa_politics_dc;_ylt=Aomyqte.w02BZ5DNMIfL31Cs0NUE

By John Whitesides, Political Correspondent 1 hour, 33 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama entered the final phase of an increasingly nasty U.S. presidential fight on Wednesday, and Clinton said her decisive Pennsylvania win proved she was the best candidate to lead the Democrats back to the White House.

Clinton's victory boosted her depleted bank account and gave new hope to her struggling campaign, but the New York senator still faces a daunting task trying to overtake Obama's lead in pledged delegates who will help select the Democratic presidential nominee at the August convention.

She said Obama's failure to knock her out of the race, despite outspending her in Pennsylvania more than 2-to-1, cast doubt on his ability to capture the big states Democrats need in November's election race against Republican John McCain.

"I've won the states we have to win -- Ohio, now Pennsylvania," Clinton told CNN. "If you look at the broad base of support that I have accumulated it really is the foundation on which we build our victory come the fall."………

Clinton wins most delegates in Pennsylvania primary

By STEPHEN OHLEMACHER, Associated Press Writer Wed Apr 23, 1:47 PM ET

WASHINGTON - Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton won the most delegates in Pennsylvania's Democratic primary.

Clinton won at least 81 of the 158 delegates up for grabs in Tuesday's contest, according to an analysis of election returns by The Associated Press. Sen. Barack Obama won at least 70, with seven still to be awarded.

The final delegate count was delayed because many of Pennsylvania's counties are split into multiple congressional districts. Pennsylvania awards delegates according to the statewide vote as well as the vote in individual congressional districts.

Election officials were expected to continue working Wednesday to assign votes from split counties to the appropriate congressional districts.

Also Wednesday, Obama and Clinton each picked up a superdelegate endorsement.

41. I don't want her to repeat MSM blather such as "why can't he close the deal"
Other than that, I'm very impressed at the tenacity she has shown, not just in this campaign, but throughout her adulthood.

I love the pic of her in the green suit, with her hair worn long. It boggles my mind that Bill would ever look at another woman, much less pursue an affair, but I've often wondered the same thing about other men I've known who cheat on their wives/girlfriends.
