GOP (and Hillary), Nazism, and fear-mongering |
|
Here's an interesting quote:
"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger." -- Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials
I know I'm probably preaching to the choir here, but just wanted to remind people to reject the politics of fear-mongering when making your decision on who to vote for in the primaries and the general election.
This Iraq War is supported through a mixture of fascism and fear-mongering. Vote for the war because you don't want the great USA to 'lose'. Fascism at its best. Vote for the war because it's a forward strategy to prevent another 9/11. Fear-mongering at its best. This isn't Nazi Germany, so don't vote your fears, but instead your hopes and dreams of what you want this great country to become.

1. So "America will become Nazified if you vote wrong" is voting for hope? |
|
It sounds like political hyperbole mixed with just a wee bit of hypocrisy.
At its best.

obviously is NOT one of your strong suits. I am not saying that 'America will become Nazified' if you vote for fear-mongering. Just pointing out the historical relevance of a statement from the Nazi trials in our politics today. Think of this quote every time somebody tells you that you need to support the war, and it's unpatriotic to be against it. That is the point I'm making.

4. It's the same appeal with different rhetoric. |

How is "Don't vote for Hillary or else we'll all be screwed" any different than "Don't vote for Obama or else we'll all be screwed" -- ? Aside from the subect and object, that is.
Just becuase you have figured out a cleverer way to say it doesn't make it any different. If the words "Nazi" and "Obama" had been similarly juxtaposed, there would be a dozen screaming fits, accusations of moral degeneracy, and calls for "public shaming".

|
Just wanted to prop up the use of (and Hillary) in the OP.
Fear-mongering appeals to the dark side of our human nature.
Vote Hope.
