Wonder what Hillary thinks?
Think Kerry made a smart move. Edwards will be a dynamic and energetic campaigner. Think this helps Kerry no doubt in my mind. But what about Hillary? If Kerry wins in 04, I'm guessing he will run again in 08. I would guess if Kerry loses, that Hillary would probably be one of the leaders for the 08 nomination, probably challenged by Edwards. But if Kerry wins, no 08 chance for Hillary unless Kerry has an economic repeat of President Carter, which weakened him allowing Kennedy to give him a good run.

Any thoughts about how much Hillary is getting behind this?

1. I heard part of her speech to the NEA, on NPR while driving home.
She worked in many upbeat mentions of the Kerry-Edwards team, and received lots of cheers. It sounded like a campaign speech, just as you would might hear from Dean, Clark or anyone else, urging listeners to get out and work for Kerry & Edwards, register others, and get to the polls this fall.

My guess is that her foremost thoughts are to get Bush out of the White House.

5. I always thought she would be a great Secretary of Education...
Her work in Arkansas was a model for the entire nation, at that time, I guess. God knows the E system needs some high calibre help.

22. No experience
Hillary cannot be secretary of state. She has virtually no foreign policy experience.

23. No way
They need her in the Senate as long as there's a Repuke governor in NY. We have a 40 percent chance of taking back the senate in my opinion.

28. Why doesn't she just stay in the Senate?
New York has a Republican governor, remember? We can't afford to lose any Democratic Senate seats.

3. I honestly think she would be content just being a US Senator
from New York. If the opportunity to ever run for president or vice president comes up I'm sure she might take it but I don't think it is a obsession with her--the way the rw would like us to think.

7. The fix is in
Don't be surprised if hillary is not only not behind Kerry, but working backstage to torpedo his campaign. Hillary cannot wait until 2012 to run, so she cannot afford to have Kerry win. Another problem with Kerry winning, for Hillary, would be the possibility that Kerry is a one term president and she will have to run against an incumbent president in 2012, a much harder race to win. If she can torpedo kerry, he loses and she runs against a republican candidate in 2008 that has been beaten up in the GOP primaries. Hillary is as big a bush supporter as there is for this election. She will not be content to serve as a secretary of anything or even as a senator. 2008 is her only shot and she knows it. After that, she will be either too old or too far removed from the national spotlight. Besides, time, i am afraid, will not be kind to the Clinton Administration. She has to run in 2008. She will not have it any other way.

8. this is, of course, your opinion.

One that I strongly disagree with. Senator Clinton has served her country well as First Lady and served New York well as Senator. She deserves better than this.

9. She knows that..
She feels as though she deserves the White House. It may be my opinion, but one crafted from the ideas of political pundits from both sides of the fence, not just Repugs. If you feel that Hillary would settle for anything less than the White House, you are very sorely mistaken. I have many friends in common with Hillary, although we have never met. (Spent 4 Yrs in Little Rock/Fayetteville from 1988 to 1992 in College, and many of my friends were friends of the Clintons. I actually sat at a wedding once and discussed politics with Clinton's first Associate Attorney General, after his stint in Prison, over stale Beer at 3 A.M.) I have a good idea of what kind of person she is, and I have accurately represented that in my post.

Are you saying that this is not feasible? or are you just saying you've heard it before? I think it should be a source of concern that the possibility of one of our own torpedoing our candidate.

What evidence do you propose to justify these claims against Senator Clinton?

18. No evidence...just speculation.
I am merely speculating. An assessment of the situation and a decent knowledge of Hillary's character leads me to this hypothesis. My knowledge of her character i have previously outlined in an earlier post. Aren't we just chatting here? throwing out ideas? Just trying to contribute to the discussion.

17. Hillary is a RW obsession
I've never understood why, but that's who thinks "Hillary" every time anything happens. She's busy being a senator and a successful author. I'm sure she'll live if she's never president.

20. Depends what you mean by RW, I guess
First the speculation was that she was going to jump in the race once Bush looked vulnerable. She didn't. Then there was the psycho-speculation that Clark was a stalking horse for Hillary. He wasn't. Now this. People need to get over it.

21. It is not about people getting over it.
Hillary did not jump into the race because she wasn't assured of getting the nomination. Wesley Clark was there to give her an indication as th whether the time was right for her to get in, she saw that it wasn't as Clark faired poorly. Being the first lady and a few years in the senate was not a strong enough resume with which to jump into the fray. I find it amazing that people are so quick to dismiss the possibility, which will give us another 4 yrs of Bush and no guarantees beyond that. I am trying to be realistic

24. sorry, I think Hillary obsession is more a sickness than realism
What in the world does Clark fairing poorly have to do with her? Nothing. Clark's candidacy had nothing to do with Hillary. That's a RW fantasy. I have no idea where it came from, other than some kind of really sick need to tie in everything to Hillary. I don't pretend to understand the way they think. At that point she was high up in the polls even though she wasn't running, simply because she had name recognition. I still say get over it and time for bed for me.

25. Clark was an indicator
If Clark had done well, Hillary would have entered the race, teamed with Clark and won the nomination, in theory. Whay else would she and Bill drag him into the race. He really didn't want to be there. What is with the "obsession" thing? I didn't start this thread, only contributing, someone else asked the question. All I am asking is that you take your head out of the sand, or wherever it is stashed and look at this from an objective point of view.
