Do you want to know why it is a GOOD thing Wright is out in public? |
|
Those 30-second loops won't be going away. Shipping him off to some other country until November will only help those who want to smear Wright (and by association, Obama).
Putting Wright himself out there is a powerful counter to those sound-bytes. More importantly, as we are seeing, it is a powerful way to truly confront the issues of race in this country. Wright knew he would be on national television, and he made sure his speech was a powerful one. He didn't back down, like some would expect. He challenged the media and us as a nation to look within ourselves, beyond those sound-bytes that will not be going away.
He needed to do this. Those clips won't be going away, even if Wright is put under house-arrest for the next 7 months.

Furthermore, I believe that a Barack Obama candidacy will bring out these issues of race, class and national identity in one way or another; I am confident that we will make it through as a nation in one piece.

though it comes with some risk- the trouble with most Democrats the past 15 years or so is that they've become FAR too risk averse, for fear of "offending" someone -particularly the far right.

8. It is surprising to me that people think |
|
Wright will hurt Obama in the GE. I read something like this earlier. With all the media attention he is getting, he will become a much tamer character to most Americans. It is quite clear that some people get off on hearing inflammatory 30 second clips over and over and over and over and over and over again, but most rational people are willing to look further once all the hype settles. Rev. Wright is on his way into the mainstream. Has anyone coined a new term yet, like being "wrighted" though I don't know exactly what the term would mean???

You would love to revel in the out of context, 10 second sound bytes that portray a man you can associate Obama a a 'nutcase'. Unfortunately for Clinton, he has far too much integrity and courage to let the Right-Wing style smears you are so proud of go unanswered.
It is simply disgraceful that DUers, any DUers, will so easily fall for the very same unmitigated bullshit that has been heaped on Democrats by the RW Machine these last many years simply because of their zealotry for Clinton.
It's pathetic and transparent... sad you can't see that.

16. Absolutely. When I heard the talking heads and some here crying |
|
"Oh, no! Keep him hidden away!" I thought that was BS. I knew just from watching the etended sermons on youtube that this guy was the real deal and no hatemonger. The ones who wanted him to stay hidden away just wanted the scary black preacher to stay in everyone's head. I say the more everyone sees of the REAL man, the better off he will be and Obama will be and America will be.

the charge, despite what the m$m posited on the damage prior to the interview. I did see it, with my DH who is far less political than I am, and we both thought he was great.
Then tonight, the NAACP speech, sealed the deal. Touch this man, a man trying to educate the people, not divide them. I loved Reverend Wright's speech and him.

Because the issues Wright has raised have everything to do with high gas prices, the war in Iraq, etc. He is talking about how the injustice of imperialism eventually turns around and bites it's perpetrators. If he makes people think a little more deeply about these issues, that is all to the good.

they fucked up. they shouldve waited till the general. since they played this weak card so early, people are going to be a) desensitized to him because of the issue being way overdone and b) people are going to realize hes not a bad guy after all. just the other day, i saw colmes explaining to hannity that wrights comments were actually taken out of context, and that he was actually quoting someone else and elaborating on comments from a previous fox guest when he said the "chickens roost" comment. too little too early.
