To CLARKIES Who Still Want To Support Wes Clark's Legacy
Edited on Tue Jul-06-04 11:21 PM by DoveTurnedHawk
I am pleased to announce the formation of the FOUR-STAR DEMOCRATIC CLUB. We are a Democratic Club whose focus is on foreign policy and international relations, two areas where Democrats have traditionally -- and unfairly -- been painted as weak by Republicans and the complicit media. The first meeting of our flagship chapter in Los Angeles attracted 50 people this past Monday (a holiday weekend, no less), and our mailing list is many times that size.

Our group's chairman is Wes Clark, Jr. We intend to work with organizations such as WesPAC (to the extent allowed by law, of course), and we hope to launch a speaker series with foreign policy experts. Of course, we would love to have the General as one of those speakers. :-)

Our first priority is helping elect John Kerry and John Edwards to the White House. We also seek to assist local Democratic races, and advance our overall goal of furthering the message of Democratic foreign policy expertise.

Our club has already been accepted as a formal Democratic Club by the California Democratic Party. We are now seeking people who are interested in our mission to help start chapters in other areas. We have a set of approved bylaws which we can send to you, and we are happy to offer any other logistical support we can, but the particulars of how to start a Democratic club vary from state-to-state. My guess is that you will probably need to contact your state Democratic party organization, have a dozen or two charter members, and pay a modest filing fee.

If you are interested, please PM me your e-mail address and I will send you the bylaws. And if you could please help me keep this message kicked, I would appreciate it.

Best,
DTH

2. Damn ....
Where were ya in 2002 ? ...

I went to the Jerry Voorhis Democratic Club .. in the Claremont Colleges .... and it was really on it's last legs .... I brought the average age down from about 78 to 68 ...

not bad ...

Either way: I moved from CA to MO, and Im glad you finding success there .... we need to coalesce around our core beliefs and fight for them ....

We have had it too easy these last 30 years ... I suppose ...

I'm in San Antonio which I think is a natural location for a group with this focus.

7. Excellent idea!
My town is probably too small, although we do have alot of retired vets. But I will definitely get it to some people in Portland and Eugene who might be interested. The Democratic Party definitely needs this. Thank Wes Jr. from all of us! The Dem Party's answer to PNAC!

23. That Would Depend on State Dem Party Rules for Clubs
My guess is that most states are not set up for this yet, though. :-(

9. a question
Do you think Clark will have a role in the Kerry administration? Defense Secretary? Ambassador to one of our major allies (we have some serious patching up to do with our allies)?

Funny thing is, tonight I don't even mind, I'm just so jazzed about everything. :-)

Man, I CANNOT WAIT to see Bush's sorry ass booted from the White House on November 2!

14. It is premature where I physically live
To attempt to set up a chapter. We just founded the first Democratic Club period, in my township. I have only lived here (in the Catskills New York) for 2 1/2 years, so I don't have as many local connections as I would like yet, but I'm working on it.

So I am very interested but can't act on it as of now. If you folks put out emails, or keep minutes of your meetings, or issue statements or whatever, I would love to be kept informed.

from a Canadian who can't donate but can help by kicking this up! Anything the Clark family is involved in is good for all of us, in and out of the US, imo.

19. I'll be in and a question about Clark.
Has Clark indicated his future plans? I would love to see him stay in politics. Maybe he can run for something from Arkansas, if Kerry doesn't pick him for a cabinet position.

20. He talks about one thing only
He's back in business, as well, but as far as anything political, it's always get Bush out and Kerry in. "That's the mission." He doesn't want to hear any ifs, ands or buts about it, either.

21. My plate is full so I can't get involved
But it is a good idea for some folks to focus on these important issues. I, like many Deanies, have turned my focus to local party, grassroots type building. It is very time consuming work leaving little time to work on some of the bigger picture things.

The more areas of concern to this country that Dems can form groups for to address the better.

Good to know this is getting some serious efforts put into it. Thanks for the update. I'll pass the info of your group onto my local board at our next mtg. on the 14th.

26. Very nice, DTH
PM me with the by-laws - I am looking to move back to New England soon, and they'll be a ready audience for this when I get there, I think.

(In the meantime, I may send it off to a NH friend who is actively working with MoveOn)

If that's OK, of course. :)
