7. I don't like her either but it has nothing to do with her age or looks.
Women should not have to be young and pretty to be trusted.

In other cultures experience and wisdom are valued; let's try it here.

And reveals something of the superficial nature of the woman's viewpoint.

I think it plays directly on her ability to inspire trust.

46. Yeah, let's talk plastic surgery.....
Remember Gretta Van Sustern? (sp) She was the legal analyst during the OJ Simpson trial. She now has her own show on CNBC, I think, and SHE'S HAD PLASTIC SURGERY!! (I really thought she was so much more knowledgeable about the law then that Roger Cossiac(sp) but, anyway, she did go to UW Madison (in Wisconsin) so I was sooooo proud of her, when she was doing the trial, and when she got her own show I thought great, a local does good. I looked in to see her, and oh my gosh, she looks as plastic as all the other women "in the spotlight" do. Sorry for belittling some of the women anchors and correspondences but......that plastic makes them all look the same, IMHO.

12. Poll: Edwards viewed favorably (CNN's Judy Woodruff is surprised)

Poll: Edwards viewed favorably
Inexperience seen as a weakness
Wednesday, July 7, 2004 Posted: 1:04 PM EDT (1704 GMT)

(CNN) -- Tuesday's selection of Sen. John Edwards as the Democratic vice presidential candidate is being viewed favorably by most American voters, according a new poll, although they do see the one-term senator's limited experience in political office as a liability.

A CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll, taken Tuesday, found that 64 percent of registered voters surveyed called the choice of Edwards excellent or pretty good, while 28 percent termed it only fair or poor.<snip>

Still, two-thirds of the registered voters queried said the selection of Edwards would have no impact on their vote in November, while about a quarter said it would make them more likely to vote for presumptive Democratic nominee Sen. John Kerry..... (Cheney"s) favorable rating was 43 percent, with 44 percent viewing him unfavorably and 13 percent unsure.<snip>

However, 57 percent still said they thought Edwards was qualified to serve as president if called upon to fill the office, compared to 29 percent who said he was not.<snip>

The poll showed that 67 percent of voters surveyed said his work as a trial lawyer was a strength, while only 27 percent viewed it as a weakness.<snip>

and as I recall, Edwards polled higher than any other VP ever.

They showed Cheney, Lieberman, Gore etc and showed their numbers as in the 50s. Judy is smoking something.

It seems to me that a reporter should report the information and not characterize it as "surprising"

50. They always say their polls are "surprising"!
It is just so that people stay tuned to see the poll numbers. Sometimes, they will say that the polls will be surprising and they will be just what everyone expected. This isn't a sign of bias, it is just a sign that they want more people to watch their show.

51. Yes, she did.

Here's CNN's transcript of the exchange, with their punctuation.

--
SCHNEIDER: Republicans also intend to attack Edwards for being a trial lawyer. How scary is that? Not very, because by better than 2- 1, voters see Edwards experience as a trial lawyer as more of a strength than a weakness -- Judy.

WOODRUFF: Scary!

SCHNEIDER: Right.

WOODRUFF: Interesting. OK. Bill Schneider, thanks very much.

SCHNEIDER: Sure.
--

And this doesn't allow for the cues provided by body language, her constant smirk, etc.

Given her track record, I hardly think she meant it as an innocent comment or one directed towards the choice of language. It was a dig.

55. Well, yes, she technically did
if you read my post you would see that I acknowledge that. I'm just saying that it's disingenuous to say that she was calling the results scary when she said that. As your post shows, Bill Schneider sarcastically uses the word "scary" to describe the Republican "lawyer" line, and since he said it kind of funny, Judy said it again, not calling the results scary, but by way of commenting on the strange choice of words.

39. if we saw the same thing, that wasnt what she said. bill schneider
brought up would the people see it as "scary" or some such thing that edwards was a trial lawyer, but he said no, that by a margin of 2 to 1, people were fine with edwards as a trial lawyer

then it was back to judy and she said , in her odd or awkward way (a bit fluffy i guess), she just said "scary huh?" pause then mumbled something like "uh ok"
it was the end of segment, going to commercial

anyway thats what i saw. i just want to be fair. they have a lot to answer for and i agree its hard to watch but today at least these shows, have been positive i think

and also cnn has been giving a lot of attention to edwards which im thankful for. i mean inside politics didnt even show * or his comment about "cheney could be president" until more than a half hour into the show! it was all about edwards

they also showed the dems response (on the screen) to * and co attack on edwards: "they went from 0 to negative in under 24 hours"

what a great shot. and like i said they left it on the screen long enough to get a good read and they read it out loud of course.

this with paul begala to day on crossfire, it has been a good bit of pushing the lies down to the ground where they should be and good coverage of edwards.

45. Damn problem

This is the problem with debate in this nation. Democrats are always having to defend themselves.

First, they have to defend themselves as “Liberal” and now one has to defend the fact he’s a “trail lawyer”. By all accounts, a highly successful and brilliant one at that. We had Kerry having to defend whether or not his medals were “duly earned”.

Now what is the alternative? Two corrupt power whores who are both oilmen…with direct contacts to the wealthiest, most powerful and most dangerous companies in the world and the willingness to let said companies craft legislation without any credible suspect from any democratic representation. Meanwhile, Bush’s “claim to fame” is a highly UN-successful businessman and an AWOL member of the Texas National Guard.

Why in the hell is Edwards having to defend his chosen profession and what he has done or not done. It is time the media start asking how Bush/Dicks connections to oil companies is making a f***** mockery out of our democracy.
