My faith has been restored, I now have such an optimistic view of...
America's future!

I Tivo'd "Hardball" last night and watched it about two hours ago. When I heard Donna Brazil talking about Obama it finally came clear -fellow democrats, we are going to control the next 24 years of presidential (at least) politics!

I see Kerry spending a full eight in office, followed by Edwards or Hillary, then Obama I feel has a VERY good chance at becoming president, especially if put on someones ticket in the upcoming future.

Today is a great day!!!! :toast:

1. the mind is a terrible thing to waste
and it is also myserious

I was totally down on Kerry and the entire process--in despair--contemplating whether to even vote at all. Contemplating whether to move to Canada.

For some reason, which I cannot put my finger on, the choice of Edwards as a running mate has given me hope and I cannot really point to any reasonable explanation of it.

It looks much more hopeful to me now.

Perhaps it is because I perceive Edwards as a smart and brave man not about to take any crap from Bush/Cheney et al.

2. What you speak of is very common, probably "too" common
I think most of us were all dead-set on a given candidate that expressed our values and beliefs, and then we got stuck with a middle of the road candidate.

I was all for Dean, I still refuse to remove his bumper sticker from my car, but I think now I realize that what is truly important is keeping conservatives out of the oval office. I had my times of criticism of Clinton, but in no way does he even compare to my absolute hatred of Bush. Being as liberal as I am, most likely only Canadian politics would suit me.

However a new leaf has been turned, one that shows a bright and promising future for the nation...one I don't want to be left out on freezing to death in Canada.

3. you should read the thread about "favorite edwards moments" - hope
abounds on that one and it was wonderful to read. whether its gushing about the wonderful photos which do matter actually, and also about how his quick mind and replies to questions or hecklers etc it really made me glad to read more about him

this is one powerful combination and will highlight the negativity of the other side in a way that the media hasnt shown before - but its definitely going to get out there now.

im very happy you have hope. a close friend of mine said that same word when she heard of the choice yesterday.

4. It's been over since Memorial Day
The country has already rejected Bush. Just look carefully at the polling data. It's about to accept Kerry and Edwards is a big help. This one won't be close. It is all but over.

8. That alone gives me great hope
Maybe you were down on Kerry for the opposite reasons that voters who lean conservative were, but I think that your reaction to Edwards won't be exclusive to the left side of the spectrum. He's got something and it mixes extremely well with Kerry. Kerry is not really a dull old guy. Just the fact that he snowboards should tell a person that. Not only does that make him a very fit 60 year old, he had to learn to do that just for the enjoyment of it. You know there's something there that should connect with people, but just can't do it en masse somehow. Put Edwards next to him and rather than overshadowing Kerry he seems to bring Kerry out of the shadows.

10. I feel GOOD about this. Way better than I thought I would !
I was getting convinced they didn't plan on fighting. It came down to the VP choice for me. To prove they wanted to win.
Know what? I think they want to win!

11. Yes, it's strange... I've had a similar feeling. The VP choice has me
feeling GREAT, even though it was really one of the obvious few choices.

Primarily because it's a settled deal, for one.

Also, because Kerry avoided one of the last HUGE pitfalls he could have fallen into, picking a dry charisma-less running mate.

But I do feel it gives me a positive feeling way beyond what it ought to, on the face of it.

12. They don't usually make the obvious choice
It's usually someone you've never heard of. It's usually someone like Lieberman, so the obvious choice was a brilliant deviation.
