I just returned from the Kerry/Edwards Rally in Dayton, Ohio!
I feel very fortunate that I got to shake hands with both Sen. Kerry and Sen. Edwards. What a pleasure. I still haven't washed my hands!
Sen Kerry had Teresa and their family with him and Sen. Edwards had his wife, Elizabeth with him. All four of them spoke and each had something interesting to say. Sen. Edwards was most impressive. He is a very polished speaker and projects a sincere and very pleasant personality. The contrast with his counterpart (Cheney) could not be more dramatic. It looks like John Kerry hit a grand slam home run in this pick for VP. America is just going to love Sen. Edwards and his lovely family when they get to know them. This is a team that everyone but the most die-hard right winger can support.

4. Don't be too envious -
We drove for an hour and got there very early to get a good spot.
Then we stood in the hot sun for 6 hours before they arrived. I am burnt to a crisp and dog tired. Only the copious amounts of free water saved me from collapse. I wanted to see the whole team in person, so I guess it was worth it.

14. Glad you enjoyed the free water.
I was one of the people who passed out water and I prefaced each bottle I gave away with "Vote for Kerry/Edwards" -- the responses I received were SO enthusiastic.

We're going to win Ohio, because of people like you!

3. I spotted the below elsewhere on DU:
http://cagle.slate.msn.com/art/ That's the way the respective campaigns seem to be shaping up so far. I don't think those clowns will be able to change direction in time to save their sorry butts.

5. That's a great cartoon but -
as you know, Sen. Edwards is not that down-homey sounding. He is very articulate and has about as much of an accent as Pres. Clinton.

9. Sorry...I'm from the NE...and I hear a real drawl.
MUCH more than Clinton...believe me! Maybe you are used to a Southern drawl...I never hear it...so it is very noticible to me.
In fact, I don't like it...find it distracting from what he is saying....but maybe I'll get used to it. Never notice Clintons. Funny!

6. I shook Edward's hand and I got him to sign my hat.
Now all I need is Kerry's signature.

7. also was in Dayton...
drove 3 hours also burnt to a crisp it was worth every minute imo. my daughter and i had to leave a little early because there where so many people pressing to get closer, the heat started getting to us (we both got very dizzy and felt faint)my husband stayed to the last word . We can feel the democratic party coming back to what it used to be, the compassion, the spirit, the fight, the sense of many joined together for one single cause...offering true American heartland ideals to the world not dirty corrupt business ideals. This dream team is awe inspiring definitely check them out if you can.

12. Ugh, I feel ya
Did you see him earlier when he came to Houston and San Antonio? Haha, I'm pretty sure that's the last time he'll visit us.

Until he's president, that is. I'm sure he'll stop by then.

11. I envy you - how big was the crowd?
I haven't felt so good about a ticket since Clinton/Gore came out of the Dem convention back in 92 and visited my hometown on their bus tour to speak by a statue of JFK.

H'mmm, wonder if we can lure JFK/Edwards to do the same!

13. The crowd was estimated to be 18,000-20,000.
I was a volunteer today and we had 72 hours to pull this off. Our first estimate was to expect 5,000-7,000 people. At the next meeting we were told to expect 8,000-10,000. We had to turn away ticket holders because the gated area was full!

Originally we planned to allow the public in at 2:30 p.m; that was later bumped up to 1:00 pm. The volunteers were to report an noon, and when we arrived there were people standing in line.

The turnout was incredible.

We're going to win Ohio!
