The Tide Has So Turned. Can You Feel It?
Man, I knew I would be elated if Kerry picked Edwards, but I had no idea it would feel like this. This is what America has been waiting for. You can feel the tide has totally turned.

The talking heads spew their verbal bombs, and you can literally hear the "thud"...no explosion. No traction. The RW continues to tilt at windmills and looks more ridiculous by the moment. Instead of making me angry, I now laugh.

This time last week, I was praying for a miracle that would enable us to take back our country, even if it was by a slim margin of electoral votes. Now, I completely expect a landslide. The miracle came. His name is John Edwards.

Time to REALLY get to work. Take back our country and throw the Bush bastards out. By a landslide!

2. A landslide would be nice
but don't expect one. The danger is that people start thinking in terms of a big victory and start to slack off. It's much better to be hungry than cocky, and Democrats are hungry.

We must work as if every vote matters, because it does. Just remember 2000.

3. This might be a honeymoon phase. Repub convention might hit us
harder than we think, esp. if Iraq churns out fewer bodies and more jobs (on paper...and WE know the jobs are worthless, but we also know how people automatically believe anything smirky/snarly say).

Still......dare I say it.........I think this is a winning ticket.

I was "okay" with Edwards right after the pick (wasn't really pushing for anyone in particular, but didn't think a couple of the others would be good). Then throughout the day I became more and more "okay" with it, until, finally, I found myself excited about it. I feel it was the right pick. Kerry done good!

15. Well, a year ago I'd have said you're crazy. But F9/11 is selling out here!
I had no idea we had that many Dems here in Bush country. If Independents swing our way....it's possible! Texas used to be a Democrat state (hard to believe now).

4. We can do this!
Edited on Wed Jul-07-04 10:58 PM by Pabst Blue Democrat
I keep hearing that a vice presidential candidate has historically had little effect on a voters decision....well, there's a first time for everything, right?

I've believed for a long time that John Kerry is the man to unseat *Bush and be president. Now I'm starting to believe that John Edwards is the man to help get him there.

John Kery '04 - With a little help from our friends!

6. I sure hope that is true...
if there is a sea change in public opinion, I don't think the RW mighty Wurlitzer resets itself in time. They're too centralized and their favorite talking points are years old. Their obsolete talking points will start costing them credibility.

7. Yes I think the Tide has Turn.
I woke up this morning and asked my spouse if she recalled that happy feeling the month before Clinton won. She at first looked at me like I had lost it, but then she just smiled and said I have that feeling now. I said me too. I think in Nov. we will take the White House back and much more.

8. All I know is...
When Dub gave his usual curt, arrogant answer today to the question about the difference between Cheney and John Edwards (what, isn't Dick pResident already?:eyes: ), one got the feeling that he was watching North Carolina disappear from his column before his eyes.

Moreover, watching Liddy Dole try and be critical of John Edwards' record in the Senate when she has accomplished exactly NOTHING of consequence there in almost two years of being part of the Senate MAJORITY was pretty laugh-inducing, too.

They're going to hammer away at the "trial lawyer, TRIAL LAWYER!!!" theme from now to November 2, as they've got NOTHING else to hang their hats on with John Edwards. "Chip" Rove says they'd rather go after Kerry as he's a "much richer target". Well, let'em try THAT angle, too. It simply proves that the Bush Machine is looking back at its attack-ad quiver, and finding it almost empty of arrows at this point. I must admit, THAT predicament they find themselves in at this stage surprises me; I thought they were saving their best for later--which they still may be. However, it's beginning to look as though they're increasingly desperate...Iraq is a quarmire with over 16,000 AMericans injured and fast-approaching 1000 killed; the economy is bottom-feeding and may take a new nose-dive beofre the election; Kenny boy's under indictment, while Tom Delay's got his attorneys. And the Plame affair investigation is just getting into the meat of things at the White House.

In short, you're right...it IS a gooooood day to be a Democrat!

9. They are horrified
They've spent two days stressing what a poor pick John Edwards is and how much of a non-factor he will be in the election. Two days on an apparent non-factor!!! I could smell the shit in Limbaughs pants through the speakers in my radio.

10. Jerry Brown on Hardball.

First thing, I had to turn Tweety off when he was interviewing the woman governor of, sorry, forgot the state and he seemed to be really going after her on what positive things she said about Edwards.

I turned it back on when Jerry Brown was on and boy did he slam the voting machines. He is on the same page as so many others about how it doesn't matter how many Democrats you get energized if their dang votes are going to count. When he voted in his precinct recently in a low income part of Oakland, 4 people were turned down, not on the voting list, and he personally took them to get it straightened out. If he found four people who were LEGALLY able to vote, but were not on the registration rolls in the small time he was there, he felt that alone could prove that millions could lose their right to vote in November if we don't have every available lawyer, watchdog, eagle eye of every kind at every precinct possible. THE ONLY WAY BUSH/CHENEY can win is by stealing votes. It is the ONLY way. Not counting them doing, uh, I mean having something happen like a major (convenient) terrorist attack. Put nothing past these mad dogs. Their being cornered and their fangs are showing more than ever.

13. Absentee ballots are part of the answer
Anyone with doubts about whether they are on a voter roll should get an absentee ballot. That way, if there is any problem sending you out a ballot, you'll be on notice and will have time to correct matters.

The Republicans have long been the party of the absentee ballot. Democrats should beat them at their own game.

22. I agree Ugarte

My friends say they are all going to do absentee ballots down here in South Florida because they don't trust the machines. But, last election they found a large amount of absentee ballots stuck all over the place uncounted. Well, maybe in a drawer. Doesn't make one feel very secure either way. Hopefully, every precinct will be set up with provisional voting capability and someone to watch for people being turned away for not being on the voting rolls so they can get their names even if they let them do a provisional vote. To match things up later if needed. But, that takes a lot of volunteers.

We do know that at least at this time, major cheating is the only way they can win.

The world is watching this time.

I've seen her a couple of times before and she IS Cute. I think I saw her on Bill Maher one night when he had a particularly nasty intro. She made the comment that she would check with her schedule people a bit closer next time. heh heh But she was great on his show. I think she was born in Canada wasn't she? Can't hold higher office here? Too bad if that's true.

11. At minimum, the Dems aren't committing suicide this year
This is a very, very strong ticket, no circular firing squads, no protest candidates, no DINOs either. The Repubs are very, very dirty, and the only limit on what they do is within their own imagination. But, at least, we are no longer helping them.

I don't think that people vote for VP, but I think the way that the two (and their families) interact adds a whole lot to the ticket. Kerry looked great with the Edwards and the kids. I mean, he is visibly looser. I think they have a great influence on each other.

Plus, Kerry is getting more vocal against the administration. Talked about how we know Cheney can be president because he already is, and how blacks were denied the vote in Florida. The gloves are off!

hearing about this side of Kerry on Du a few times today! Do you have any links? I'd like to hear exactly what Kerry said. It's talk like this, plus the Edwards pick, that is making me feel more confident.

19. It's like alchemy
They are two puzzle pieces that make no sense apart but when put together everything falls into place.
Make no mistake, the Democrats' performance over the past four years and the whole primary has left a VERY bad taste in my mouth but I found myself actually feeling a glimmer of hope the other day. I think they can pull it out and I hope that they will really stick to Edwards' populist message.

14. Same here.
It just feels good. We've been on a winning streak the last 2 weeks. First Michael Moore's movie, and the predictable Repug Retreat.

Next, John Kerry and Edwards. What an unbeatable team. It must send shivers down their spine.

There was a photo of Bush and Cheney in the Oregonian today. Compared to Kerry-Edwards, they looked like petrified mummies, sour and gloomy.

20. Did you watch CBS Evening News?
They showed the rally in Cleveland, and a woman in the audience said, "When I saw these two speak, I thought 'Oh.......my.........God...... we ARE going to take our country back.'"

This is NO Dukakis/Bentsen, so don't worry about losing in the polls later. That photo op Wednesday morning in Pennsylvania with all the kids was stunning for us, and chilling for the Repooks. Katie Couric said "Look at those young children; this looks like the Kennedys."

Repuke campaign chief Ed Gillespie is grasping at straws. If Edwards were Christ himself, Gillespie would denounce the running mate as a liberal because he once gave free bread and fish to poor people.

They are going nuts!
