I hope we aren't setting expectations too high. |
|
It is great to see all the euphoria resulting from Kerry's selection of Edwards as his VP. We certainly deserve to feel good after 3+ years of being Cheney-ed.
But I am a little worried that we are setting unfairly high expectations of Edwards--to make no mistakes, to always be devastatingly clever, to take down the administration single-handedly.
We have a huge uphill battle with --*'s big piggy bank and lots of piggies ready to do more --* et al.' ability to manipulate events such as events in Iraq & Afghanistan --Diebold --the stranglehold the Repugs have on the media. (small example just this AM--The Today Show reported Bush's remark that the difference between JE and DC is that "DC can be president", without including JK's effective retort.)
No matter how brilliant our candidates are, these are formidable challenges and we don't want to make them worse by creating impossible expectations.
Can anyone set my mind at ease?

1. You're right to be cautious..... |

I am worried as well, especially knowing how the dirty tricks of the other side can and will work. So I'm less worried about Edwards or Kerry having a "human" moment as much as I am how the other side will exploit it and the media will play it up, all the while ignoring their own foibles and errors (of which there are many).
Cautious optimism is what we all need.
