2. Completely publicly-financed elections. |
|
with no private or corporate donations allowed WHATSOEVER. Required donation of media airtime and print space for major parties. Time-limit on campaigning (no campaigning before set date). Election day holiday. and THEN finally instant run-off voting.

votes. (We have proportional distribution of electoral votes here in Maine. And voluntary clean elections too. Can't tell you how lucky I feel to be living in this forward-thinking state!)

6. No more electoral votes ! |
|
Do away with the electoral college altogether. Replace it with Instant Runoff Voting.
- Complete public financing of all campaigns - Instant runoff voting - Proportional representation
Also, something needs to be done about the mass media. Thanks to the current setup, 70% of Americans though Sadaam had something to do with 9/11. Maybe some kind of regulation, at least in terms of ownership, making news orgs less "profit center" oreinted, etc.

7. proportional representation in a disproportional system... |
|
Kerry picks John Edwards as his running mate and expects that to make him a populist. He talks about how great Bush is handling the Iraq war and he still expects me to consider him a populist. He says nothing about election reform, proportional representation, or abolishing the Electoral College..and yet he still calls himself a democrat!
Kerry can win this race if he wants to, or he can lose it. Most Americans believe voters should elect our President, not states. Most Americans believe that one vote in Florida should have the same impact as one vote in Alaska. Most Americans believe that democracy is the greatest institution in America, not something we should be ashamed of! Unless Kerry understands this, he will be savaged by the Bush campaign on election day.

but if we can't have truly clean elections then I oppose any half-ass measures that put any particular party at a disadvantage.
