July 7, 2004--New Jersey looks ready to cast its Electoral Votes for the Democratic ticket of John Kerry and John Edwards this November.

The latest Rasmussen Reports New Jersey survey finds Senator Kerry with a ten point lead over President Bush, 51% to 41%. New Jersey remains in the "Likely Kerry" category in our Electoral College projections.

Four years ago, Bush lost the Garden State to Al Gore by sixteen points, 56% to 40%. In last month's survey, Kerry led Bush by a dozen points, 51% to 39%.

Kerry attracts 81% of New Jersey Democrats while Bush earns the vote from 80% of the state's Republicans. Voters not affiliated with either major party favor Kerry by a 53% to 35% margin.

3. We shouldn't even talk about New Jersey

If Jersey doesn't go with Kerry the only place we'll pick up is DC.

4. If we lost NJ
the night would be over very early and Kerry would be losing by a great margin.

I don't see that happening. I think he will end up sweeping the northeast -- a few polls showing Maine and NH close doesn't worry me.

5. NH is something to be worried about
Bush won the state in 2000, very narrowly, so we can't take it for granted. But, Kerry being from MA should make this state go for him. Also, Maine gives one electoral vote to each congressional district and the 2nd district could be close so we can't take that state for granted either.
