NC Poll BEFORE Edwards was picked as VP
The state is still Republican-friendly, but Bush, a Republican, is nowhere near as popular as he was when he won North Carolina four years ago, according to a recent statewide poll.

The poll showed 47 percent of likely voters choosing Bush, compared with 42 percent voting for Sen. John Kerry, a Democrat. With Kerry's selection this week of U.S. Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina as his running mate, Bush's lead could become more precarious.

Four years ago, 56 percent of North Carolina voters chose Bush, and 43 percent voted for Democrat Al Gore.
