Fox News' Neil Cavuto admits he was wrong (about Edwards)
Edited on Fri Jul-09-04 11:42 AM by JI7
does anyone remember this. i remember others said edwards trying too hard would be a turn off. but i always said it wouldn't because Kerry did the same thing in 2000. he "campaigned" to be vp,and he didn't give the standard non interested answer. he admitted he would like to be vp.of course he ended up not getting it. but because Kerry did the same thing then that Edwards did this time i knew Kerry would not be turned off by it and in fact like it. of course kerry himself had asked edwards to do a lot of what others attacked Edwards for doing.

<I was wrong.

There, I said it. I was flat-out, no-denying-it, over-the-top wrong.

Last spring, I argued on this very show that no way that John Edwards would be John Kerry's running mate. Edwards was trying too hard, almost looking too smarmy, too suck-up-ish, I said.

I remembered that Democratic Unity rally where Edwards practically stomped over his former rivals to hold his arm up high with Kerry and Bill Clinton.

So what if he acted like he "really, really, really" wanted the job? He did "really, really, really" want the job. And he acted like it.

So he got it. And I have egg on my face because of it.>

1. He managed to be pretty snarky to Edwards in that admission
Still, I guess a presstitute admitting they are wrong about anything is a step in the right direction.

2. Just to paraphrase:

"I thought Kerry wasn't stupid enough to pick an ass kisser like Edwards, but I was wrong."

Gee, what a generous soul he is.

4. picking someone who is just as ambitious and wants to win as Kerry does
is the smart thing to do if you want to win.

6. I didn't think Kerry would pick Edwards, either. Boy was I wrong.
And I'm delighted he did. I thought Kerry wouldn't want someone who might outshine him on the stage. I am so glad that Kerry is confident enough that that wasn't a turnoff for him. Kerry has his strengths. And it is appropriate for him to be more serious since, as he said, these are serious times. But a more enlivened VP does add a zing to the ticket. And Edwards doesn't have to be as serious, since he's VP.

I was wrong in thinking he wouldn't pick Edwards. And I'm glad I was wrong.

7. You gotta act like you want it. Kerry might be the nominee today in part
becaue he wasn't afraid to say he wanted to be the VP in 2000.

8. Cavuto, being an obnoxious asshole like always.
Edited on Fri Jul-09-04 12:22 PM by Eric J in MN
Cavuto wouldn't say that Cheney "really, really, really" wanted to be vp, even though Cheney selected himself.

Cavuto is mocking John Edwards.

Cavuoto is an obnoxious asshole.

9. Kerry and Edwards reportedly had dinner together
after they were both passed over for vp in 2000. Edwards probably had a good idea of how Kerry thought about the process from that dinner.

I admire Kerry and Edwards for going after the vp spot when they wanted it. It's much better than fake coyness.
