I understand that there has been a lot of frustration and disillusionment in the recent past. I can live with it, and I am hoping that others can live with it as well.
Kerry has made his choice, and in the long run, that is all that matters. Many of us are happy, and a few chagrined, that is the way it goes. Edwards was not my first choice, but what I think in this situation, really means little.
Now is the time for all of us to gather our energies and move forward. For those of you who would not vote for Kerry, with or without Edwards, please, the rest of us understand, but it gets a little old to bash Kerry at every turn. Are we going to become like the R's and eat our own?
I learned a long time ago that in politics, as in other aspects of life, not everyone can be pleased. I certainly know my share of being felt let down.
The 2004 election is a watershed event. Every vote counts, and personally, I'm casting mine with Kerry/Edwards. bush is my enemy, not those that seek to dismantle what he and his gaggle of goons have done to our country. I see Kerry as the only viable alternative to bush. For all of the discussions about Kerry being "bush-lite" or some other notion, I know that bush is a destructive force, and cannot be allowed to continue in the capacity he is in now. Just think of what 4 years of a lame duck presidency in the bush mold can do to the country. If you think the previous 3 1/2 years were bad, you have no concept of how really terrible it can get.
We also have a chance to change the face of Congress. Please, do not stay home on election day. Get all you know to vote, even if they can't vote for Kerry, the can still change Congress, (not to mention state and local issues).
This election will set the course this nation will take. It is the responsibility of all of us to ensure that this nation will survive as a democratic republic. Please don't take this lightly. The future of our children is at stake, the future of all we aspire to is at stake...and we, the people, are the ones that can make things happen.
I encourage you to use your energies in a positive way. No man or woman is perfect, we all have faults. It is always easier to find fault, than to highlight the good. I believe that the people here at DU are good, and all of the negativity can be turned around and become a rising, unstoppable force, that will crush the current administration.
We can do it, but we must be united in our effort.
Thanks for being a part of this effort.
