My bumpersticker count while on vacation....Kerry v. Bush...THIS is GOOD!
I just returned from a 10 vacation and my son and I counted Kerry/Bush bumper stickers along the way. We went through Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine. Here's the count I made note of AND I had 3 personal conversations with men who saw my Kerry bumpersticker...... ;)

Bush/Cheney.........8 bumperstickers

Kerry for President or Anti-Bush bumperstickers...... 31!!!!!

We saw probably half of those Kerry stickers in New England....BUT STILL!!! what a huge difference. THEN, I have to tell you about the 3 men who approached us about my 3 Kerry window stickers and my DUMP BUSH window sticker!

The 1st guy was in Connecticut.. We were parked in a parking lot at a travel center. When we walked out I saw a man standing by his car which was right next to ours. When we walked up to the car he said, "Hey, I really like your stickers!" I said, "Thanks, are you a Kerry fan?" He said, "Well, let me just say I want Bush out of office." We talked for about 10 minutes. He lives and works in Pa. He said he works with about 50 people and 5 of them were ex-military. All 5 of them rooted on Bush and the Iraq war. He said they ALL are pissed as hell about the mess in Iraq and want Bush OUT and are voting for Kerry. THEN he said, his wife voted for Bush and wants him out and is going to vote for Kerry. He also said the town he lived in in Pa. is a repub community and he is now seeing more and more John Kerry bumperstickers on cars. This man was about 35 yrs. old and white.

The second man was parking in the Maine hotel garage and parked right next to our car. When we walked up he said.."I like your "colorful" window stickers." He said..."I saw a sticker the other day that's my favorite so far."..."SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT. PLANT A BUSH BACK IN TEXAS." 2 more votes for Kerry. ;) He and his wife were white and elderly. Probably about 80 years old.

The 3rd gentleman was our valet at a hotel in Harrisburg, Pa. He brought us our car and said..."I really like the stickers on your car. You know "that man" was just here in Pa. yesterday and stood up there "actin' a fool!" He said, "You know what bothers me the most about him?" "He stand up there and tries to act like everything is just wonderful while we have all of those young men over in Iraq being slaughtered!" He said he sure hoped Bush lost come November. That man was about 60 yrs. old and an African American.

3 different age groups and 2 different races and they all want the chimp GONE! After those 3 conversations and my bumpersticker count, I had HOPE that the American people are as sick of this crap as we are. Bush is finished!

This is to my Clarkie friends here on DU. You know how I ALWAYS miss Wes Clark when he's on TV? WELL, he was in Bangor, Maine when WE WERE!!!!!!!!!! AND I DIDN'T KNOW IT AND MISSED HIM!!!!!!!!!! The same FRIGGIN' city!!!!:cry::cry: I'm VERY serious when I say "If I didn't have bad luck, I wouldn't have ANY luck at all."

Anyway.....I just thought the DUers would enjoy my "uplifting" report on the sticker count and my 3 conversations. :7

To the Edwards supporters....Congratulations on the VP slot.

1. Republicans have those SUVs
So they can cut straight through the forrest when seeking their prey or migrating. If you drove exclusively on roads, it would heavily bias the results towards Kerry.

5. I USE to drive an SUV and
NEVER had it "offroad"... It did, however, come in very handy for getting up my steep driveway in the winter.;) My husband and I concluded by our sticker count that Bush supporters are too embarrassed to admit, in public, that they support such a fool. I would be.

20. Most GOoPers never take their SUV's off road.
They generally pamper them like they would exotic sports cars, which generally defeats the purpose of owning one in the first place.

2. I have 2 stickers on my van, would that count as 2 or 1?
I proudly have both a Kerry for President and a Veterans for Kerry sticker. Plus I always wear my Veterans for Kerry button. The Kerry button starts a lot of conversations and opens the door to hand out voter registration forms for the non-registered.

9. Wish me well
In August I'm going to make a trip from Minnesota south through TEXAS to San Carlos, Mex. then back home to Seattle via the southwestern states. Should be interesting to see how personal people take their politics.

10. We were on the road for about 2 minutes one morning...
We had just left our hotel and my husband was SPEEDING through West Virginia, he was pulled over. When we stopped I said..."Oh No! I have the "Dump Bush" sticker on the window and he's going to double your fine!" My husband said..."F*** him. If he doesn't like it, too bad!" The cop used his radar on us ONLY. I know that because I have a radar detector in my car that picks up radar being used 5 miles ahead of us. He didn't shoot ANYONE before he shot his radar at us. :( Anyway, The speed limit changed to 75 about 100 yards ahead of us. It made me think he saw my window sticker and was was just waiting for us because, like I said, we had JUST left the hotel parking lot where the car had been parked all night. I think he had seen the sticker and was perched, just waiting for his prey. Sounds like something a repug would do. :(

3. I think you have something here.
I, too, have been watching bumper stickers here in good old Texas. I live about 50 miles west of Fort Worth, but work in Fort Worth. What I am seeing is NOTHING.
This place used to be one big mass of Bush bumper stickers....now, I cannot remember how long since I have seen one. Of course, I am not seeing any Kerry/Edwards stickers either. But that should be remedied in a few days when my order comes in. Of course, I ordered more than I need, just in case someone wants one.

11. I was born and raised in FW
and recently got back from visiting my family down there. I saw ZERO Bush stickers in DFW, and as you said, that area used to be wall-to-wall Bush Luv. However, I saw several Kerry stickers... IN BURLESON, honey! It's where my folks live now. My dad's Kerry sign lasted 3 weeks before it was stolen, and he lives on a very visible corner. That's a huge thing!! And the cherry on the sundae was learning that the reddest-neck'd redneck in my family who has voted Repub all his life is going to go with Kerry this year! Not only that, but he is passionate about it!!

They're waking up.

stickers here too and this is a very conservative area. Yesterday in Costco I ran into a woman wearing a Kerry button (and a "Prune the Bushes" button). I stopped to talk to her for a minute and another woman came up and whispered that she was voting for Kerry too.

16. In_cog
I FEEL for you missing Clark. That was a crying shame!
But look at the bright side. You have seen him many times in person and I've NEVER ever seen or met him. I just hope he is somewhere in the cabinet so we get to see/hear him once in awhile...mking losing him a little easier.

Almost saw Clark once in NH but we had a huge snowstorm...20 below zero...scared we might get stuck somewhere and bloody freeze to death. That was a bummer!

Two questions Incog. 1. How the hell did you ever get to those states without going through New York?
2. Did you ever stop driving?
Welcome back!

24. Add New York and New Jersey
to that looooong list of states. We drove an average of 8 hours a day. We stopped in Maine for 5 days which was our destination. It was a lot of driving but, we like to drive when we go to the East coast because it's so beautiful....LOVE the scenery and unfortunately it's a looong trip and we had limited days to do it.

You cannot imagine how upset I was that I missed Wes in Bangor. :( You're right. I have at least had the pleasure of meeting him many times but....I can never get enough of him. :loveya: Since I didn't have my laptop with me, I was disconnected from my usual source of information.....the internet..DU, Clark blog, WesPac and email. I did get an email alerting me that he would be in Bangor and Portland. Oh well. It wasn't meant to be....just like losing our gift to the country. It wasn't in the cards. I am still hoping that he'll be in Kerry's cabinet but, I'm not holding my breath at this point. If you get my drift. ;)

17. Just asking. Did you fly over New York State and drive around New Jersey.
I have the feeling New Jersey Kerry bumperstickers out-number Cheney-Bush-Nader bumperstickers by a substantial margin, though I have no accurate count.

My kids and I played this very same game in the 2002 election with our congressman, the superb Rush Holt, and his opponent, whose name I have happily forgotten. Rush was way ahead in bumperstickers and he won with something like 60% in a district that was recently Repuke for over 30 years.

18. Report from Central PA
Just spent two days in State College, PA (Penn State). I was at the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts. I rather prestigious Art Show and Sidewalk Sale. Well, it was like a Kerry oasis or nirvana. There was a small Kerry booth tucked in the middle of the Festival manned by a student Democrat selling Kerry buttons (50 cents) and other Kerry stuff. And apparently the network effect took off as I must have easily seen over a hundred people wearing Kerry buttons and zero with any Shrub attire. Now I realize that universities and artsy people tend to be more liberal but there had to be hundreds of rich Repukes there looking for expensive art too but nary a one displayed any allegiance to Shrub. Plus Central PA (outside of the Univ.) is actually a very conservative place. I did see one Bush-Cheney '04 bumper sticker and a dozen Kerry or anti-Bush ones.

Anyway, it was a damn pleasure to be around so many people with their heads screwed on right. I proudly wore my Kerry pin and bought a tee shirt and a couple of more bumper stickers. There was also folks walking around registering others to vote. You could feel the power of the people in the air.

21. Oneida County, New York
Bush stickers seen: 1 (a leftover from '00)
Kerry stickers seen: lots

Oneida Co. supported Bush 2:1 in 2000. I doubt we'll make that mistake again.

27. Bad news and good news
Bad news: Went to the grocery store today and the car next to mine had a "Viva Bush" sign in the back. :puke:

Good news: So far I've counted two Bush stickers and about 5 Kerry ones in this republican county. I still see Dean and Kucinich signs in front yards!
