NBC exec offers Bush mixed compliment

LOS ANGELES (AP) - NBC Sports chief Dick Ebersol had a compliment of sorts for President Bush, a one-time Yale classmate.
Ebersol, discussing security at the Summer Olympics beginning next month in Athens, Greece, said he had sought assurances about planning efforts from Bush and other leaders.

"I had a one-on-one with President Bush in February where he dazzled me," Ebersol, chairman of NBC Universal Sports & Olympics, told the Television Critics Association on Saturday.

"I went to college with him," he said. "I don't remember him as being that curious and up-to-date on all the facts. But at this one he really did know the facts."

When laughter broke out in the Century Plaza Hotel ballroom, Ebersol continued: "I'm serious. Heck, I was there. The guy liked to drink in college. But on this one he was really, truly into it because he took it very, very much to heart."
