Kerry vs. Mayor Menino of Boston
I hear that John Kerry and Boston Mayor Menino don't get along--anybody know the scoop? Is Menino a democrat?

2. Menino is a Dem
He was pissed when Kerry refused to cross the picket line a couple of weeks ago to go to Menino's speech (the cops union is picketing Menino where ever he goes due to a lack of contract).

menino - dem.
are they friends? - probabLy not, but who knows.
the fLap - kerry siding with the poLice union rather than menino.

kerry made a wise choice (imho) as menino wiLL never be more than a LocaL king.

6. what I hear from my Boston friends
is that union trouble could really impact the Dem convention. I am a huge labor supporter, and figure that the unions would be unlikely to be making such a ruckus if they were being fairly treated.

Mumbles Menino is a Dem, but he is locked in a big battle with the police union- I hear they've had no contract for over a year. I'm glad Kerry won't cross the lines, but I'm terrified that those lines will be surrounding our convention in two weeks.

What to do then?

8. Menino should have taken care of this long ago
This city is not ready for an event like the DNC convention.

9. Menino is an idiot:

He's doing no favors for the party by even leaving the possibility of a police/fire fighter picket outside of the convention. That would be a disaster. It's really too bad that that Menino can't/won't fix the situation. The party should make sure this kind of stuff is taken care of before selecting a site for the convention.

(Though, to their credit, the unions say they won't picket the convention because Kerry didn't cross the picket lines to listen to Menino. Kerry was right to not cross the picket lines).

10. Bringing the convention here made no sense on any level
First of all this city couldn't put on a one car parade with all the pervasive fueding and envy and bitterness. Secondly, it should be held in a swing state (like FL) which might have some marginally positive effect in Nov. Thirdly the GOP will be out talking about the Massachusetts Liberals yadda yadda yadda...
