How 'bout them Rethugs? From red-baiting to race-baiting to gay-baiting
Edited on Mon Jul-12-04 02:04 PM by flpoljunkie
to win elections. From Nixon right on down to Dubya. Their leaders have a long and disingenuous tradition of appealing to the lowest common denominators of fear, bigotry and prejudice--and let's not forget ignorance.

To them the end always justifies the means. They and their minions will do and say whatever it takes to shamelessly attempt to divide and conquer those voters who are malleable. Shame on them. They truly have no sense of decency. Winning to them is apparently everything.

Case in point: As Senator Feinstein just said on the floor of the Senate, she could find no other justification for the Federal Marriage Amendment to be brought to the floor when so many other issues are outstanding--among them the budget, the Homeland Security bill-- other than for pure "politics"--as it stands not a chance of passage and is something that ought to be left to the states as a matter of family law as has always been the case.

1. Republican define themselves by who their enemies are
the democrats define themselves by saying what they are FOR. republicans do it by what they are against.

3. Divide and Conquer brought to you by the Uniter....
Heard on NPR this morning -- comments by "cokie" Roberts

she said bush* is focusing on these issues because it reflects the values of poor rural folks that may be sitting on the fence

(why do I suddenly hear the theme song from deliverence?)

However it was what she didn't say that caught my interest -- she didn't say exactly why he was focusing on these themes just that he was targeting this particular group -- IMHO - he's focusing on these warm and fuzzies because he can't run on his record
