How can the NAACP be racist
if the membership is diverse. To me that is like saying that the KKK accepts black members.

Being from the Triad, Billy Yow's backyard, NAACP is viewed as a racist organization to alot of white people down here. Being an African-American woman, I can dispute this logic all day long til I am blue in the face and be accused of whining. But if a white person, particularly a southern white person would stand up and defend this nonsense it would carry alot of weight with the masses.

This is the reason why Bush feels so comfortable dissing the NAACP, because he knows that alot of whites(not only conservatives)secretly feel this why.

Southern white democrats, please be vocal on this, because the NAACP needs your help vocally, monetarily and as a member.

1. I'm with the NAACP
if the NAACP is with me. They need to get hold of and smite any radical black evangelical movements to the radical right.

In addition, if the NAACP speaks positively for gay marriage and gay rights, I'm on board. If not -- then, I am withdrawing my vocal support, and re-considering any money donations I may have given.

2. I might be mistaken on this, but years ago, I thought I read...
Edited on Tue Jul-13-04 09:41 PM by rasputin1952
that Jimmy Carter was a member of the NAACP. I know that there are several caucasians with name recognition that belong to the NAACP, and I have heard a few complaints that they are racist in some aspects, but I really find it hard to believe that any of their policies are racist, (although, undoubtably, like any other organization, I'm sure a few racists are in the ranks).

Way back in the 60's, I marched with the NAACP, as did many other caucasians, and I would do it again, to show my love of Civil Rights for all people in this country....:D

3. The NAACP is a multi-racial organization
founded by a group of whites and blacks. Not only are many of its members white, a number of its former presidents and board chairmen have been white as were (and are) some of its most influential and dedicated lawyers (including those partly responsible for the Brown decision).

The notion that the NAACP is racist is bull.

4. Absolutely
and it is so ridiculous that this racist myth continues. I would hazard to guess that the myth raised its ugly head AGAIN during the Reagan years with the ultra-conservative movement. Dubya is continuing with the trend!

Backbone of this country. It's always Black people that have to fight for everything around here. Racist.....yes, and there IS a Santa Claus.

7. Sounds like blaming the victim to me. When you are faced with racism
(or sexism or similar unfairness) you have to take race-conscious actions if you are going to overcome it.

8. Nah . . .
You're just supposed to shut up like little boys and girls and be grateful you have any rights at all.

Only white men are allowed to complain about being discriminated against. Everyone else who does so is just a bunch of whiny racists.

10. or the race card
you will be accused of playing the race card by the racists for standing up for your rights.
That's why I say unfortunately, when a white person complains about racism, it carries more weight than if I complained.
So, my white sisters and brothers speak up when you see it and become active in organizations that are there to help fight it.
