BREAKING: Paul Kirk, (Another) Former DNC Chair (1985-1989) Will be Endorsing Obama Today
Edited on Fri May-02-08 07:29 AM by ballsalicious

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/TheNote/story?id=3105288&page=1

from ABC's The Note:

"....the Obama campaign rolls out another former DNC chairman's endorsement on Friday: Paul Kirk, a superdelegate who led the party from 1985-1989, is coming out for Obama -- a day after Andrew's switch, an Obama campaign official tells The Note. (And don't count on that being it for the day, as the dribble continues.)"

53. TO ALL THOSE WHO WANT THIS POST TO DROP-THIS IS AN OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!!!
http://my.barackobama.com/page/community/post/samgrahamfelsen/gGCnxy

Chicago, IL – Today, Former Democratic National Committee Chair and Massachusetts supderdelegate Paul G. Kirk, Jr. endorsed Barack Obama.
The endorsement brings the total number of superdelegates to endorse Barack Obama to 253. Senator Obama is 279 delegates away from securing the Democratic nomination.

His statement is below:

“It is with a great sense of pride and confidence in his leadership that I am delighted to publicly endorse Senator Barack Obama and pledge my support to him as former National Democratic Chairman and as a superdelegate. Senator Obama is the one candidate who has and will continue to expand the electorate beyond the traditional Democratic party base and bring young and new and Independent voters to the Democratic banner in November, an essential ingredient to a Democratic victory.

“Throughout his life and public career, has fought the tough fights to advance the quality of life of the working families of Illinois, not with election year gimmicks like the gas tax holiday espoused by others, but by hard headed, common sense solutions, and that’s what he will do as President of the United States.

“America never turns back. America always marches forward to seize the future. 8 of 10 Americans believe their country is on the wrong track. Senator Obama is the one candidate who, in the best tradition of American history, will not take us back but will lead us to a new future.

“Senator Obama is the one candidate best able to quickly restore America’s respect and reputation globally. Senator Obama is the one candidate best able to set the tone at the top for the unity and reconciliation needed in this country, to bring us together, to define our common goals and to provide the inspiration to move us forward.

“After the attention paid to the poisonous and polarizing diatribe of recent days, Senator Obama’s clear and compelling message which appeals to our best instincts as Americans is more important than ever. For all these reasons, I heartily endorse Senator Obama and hope my colleagues will do the same.”

15. I had a teacher who said "shit" once. Does that make me a bad person?
'course, it was two years after I was in his class. And he probably didn't even remember me at the time. But still, I must have some responsibility for that because I didn't immediately come out and denounce him.

Obama is giving the party a chance to re-make itself. Must be shocking to the self-absorbed Clintons how deeply felt that desire is.

Speaking of math -- the Obama campaign rolls out another former DNC chairman's endorsement on Friday: Paul Kirk, a superdelegate who led the party from 1985-1989, is coming out for Obama -- a day after Andrew's switch, an Obama campaign official tells The Note. (And don't count on that being it for the day, as the dribble continues.)

If Clinton, D-N.Y., can make this is a race yet, we're about to find out just how patient Democrats can be with a race that's showing signs of shredding the party. Notwithstanding moves by Andrew, Kirk, and the like, Clinton needs superdelegates to wait for her case to play out -- and then she needs an utter and total rejection of the Democratic frontrunner.

13. How much has Hillary promised the DNC...
that she will cut (and replace by the DLC) if she is president? Her campaign has been trashing Dean and the DNC for years. Maybe that wasn't such a smart move. It's so hard for arrogant people to see long term consequences.

54. Making the deal with the DNC
is a good thing for the Democratic Party. We need the DNC working for all of us and for all the down ticket candidates in every single state. To do that the DNC needs money.

That Hillary had the chance to cut a similar deal with the DNC and refused is yet another example of the distinct differences between the two candidates. Obama is a real Democrat who is generous and wants to grow the party everywhere. He's committed to the ground up approach.

Hillary, in her own words does not like "activist" Democrats cropping up all over the place, she is "top down" and selfish. She absolutely DOES NOT WANT the party to grow everywhere because that would overwhelm DLCers and nullify their power sharing agreement with the Republicans. A "power sharing" agreement in which the DLC Dems agreed to always sit in the back seat and go along with anything and everything Republican.

The Clintons and other DLCers want to go backwards and starve the party growth in all states that the DNC has been working on. They even want to dump our fantastic voter file system that Howard Dean has built to be the pea green envy of the Repukes.

The Clinton DLCers want to go back to the old 20 state strategy that has been so good for the Republicans that they won everywhere and kept increasing their wins until those "activists" insisted the Chair be elected democratically instead of selected in a back room as Carville so infamously sneered is the way it "should be done."

The growth of the Party everywhere is the death knell for the DLC power mongers in DC.

All of us who for years have been committed to ridding the Democratic Party of the toxic, right wing, corporatist, warmongering influences of the DLC. Support the DNC today (with DONATIONS) - support the 50 state strategy - support Howard Dean continuing as chair and support Barack Obama for President.

30. You can bet that Howard Dean is working the phones
Clearly Dean can't take a public position on this, but the DNC is hurting for money. This narcissistic flight of fancy by Clinton has really screwed up the DNC financing, and threatened to turn our best opportunity in decades into our worst nightmare. If anybody understands the reality of the money situation, it is the past chairs. It is not coincidental that they come out back-to-back. This is the clearest possible signal for the party leaders. Basically the message is "We're ending this thing after Tuesday. Get your affairs in order."

They'll start to notice huge swaths of the country turning their televisions off everytime they attempt to show his face or mention his name by the end of May. Their only hope after that will be to try and manufacture some other scandal in October.

60. Yeah, pretty much. There's very little similarity between the two there.
They effectively turned the claims of Kerry lying about his service into a giant battle.

With Wright, there's simply nothing left to hash out. No more people to call in and make claims that he's 'unpatriotic' because of what his ex-preacher said... and even if they do, the issue's been put down like a bad pet.

Keep fishing though.

I can't wait until it's all about procedural fights at the convention. And then the convention won't count, and it'll all be about lawsuits. Then the general election won't count. That'll be my favorite.
