Nobody is ever going to always be right. It is only that they admit it when they make a mistake. |
|
There is some unfair criticism going on around these parts about Obama supporters who fell for the Kantor video. At first glance, it appeared to look bad, but it ends up that there was some doctoring, and it was not legit. Fine. You can't blame people who fell for it! They made a mistake that even ABC fell for! The only legitimate criticism going forward is people who refuse to acknowledge that they were mistaken, although it is only right to give them a couple of hours to adjust. Nobody is perfect, and God knows the blogosphere is not. But the beauty of what blogs can be is the idea that if you are wrong, the universe will let you know rather quickly, and then all that is left is to say: I was mistaken.
Making mistakes is inherently human, and people should not be blamed for being wrong on this one.

doesn't matter, in the context we see.
We already KNOW the Clinton's selective state strategy where they leave huge chunks of the US uncontested.
And we can laugh because Kantor was forced to deny it.
Old political quip about making them deny they're beating their wife.

6. Who? Who made the video? Who sent it? And how did ABC get it? |
|
Because I had nothing to do with it. And I am an Obama supporter.

10. It's the fight of the new millennium: New media vs. Old journalism |
|
When I saw it, it LOOKED real to me. His mouth was moving. He appears to say what they say he says. My first thought when I saw it wasn't, "THIS WAS DOCTORED". I first learned of it through Tapper's site, typically a FAIRLY reputable source.
How do we know when something posted on the internet is REAL or FAKE? Is there etiquette on this subject? Are we not supposed to post something until it is OFFICIALLY legitimized? That may never happen with the M$M as it is.
These are the issues surrounding new media and journalism. Sometimes with the internet you can get underground footage ignored by M$M. Sometimes it's legit and we are astounded every time a normal citizen posts something that is newsworthy and gets our attention. Sometimes it's NOT legit and we get fooled. It's only through the process of investigating a clip will we find out if it's real or not. But we can't investigate until we see it and it's out there.
This isn't Obama's fault or Hillary's fault or their supporters faults. This issue happens daily on the internet. We, as a society, haven't exactly figured out how to police new media - or if we should police it at all. Hard questions that I won't even PRETEND to have the answer to.

12. Excellent observation |
|
The internet is the great equalizer in many ways but chances of fraud are so enhanced. It's especially bad when emotions are high and people WANT to believe what they're hearing.

14. Which is why self correction, when evidence to the contrary is presented, is so important. |
|
That is what will save us. It is so much bigger than this campaign: the ability to say, hey I was mistaken. Or, let's get more evidence on this.

15. I realize that people hate to admit |

when they're wrong, especially when there is an emotional reason for wanting to believe but you're right - it's up to each of us to be more careful. That Karl Rove (and I'm convinced this was him) was able to jerk us around like that makes me furious.

11. It's like George Bush's desertion memo. |
|
The memo turned out to be fake. But everybody still knows George Bush deserted his post.
And this video turned out to be fake, probably. But everybody still knows the Clinton campaign thinks the people of Indiana are shit.
Why? Because that's the sentiment her campaign has been expressing this whole primary season. Oh, those people are "second class." That state "doesn't count." Their caucuses are corrupt.
Yada yada yada.
Just yesterday Bill Clinton was disrespecting millions of democratic voters.
