WSBT (Indiana): "Controversy explodes over Clinton YouTube video"

I've made my feelings about this known. I think it's all bullshit and Kantor was not referring to Indiana voters.
However, it should be noted that the story as "controversy" is being reported in Indiana by local news stations. So I apologize for feeding this beast but if it's being reported locally in Indiana as a "Clinton controversy" it likely may have political consequences, fairly or not.


"The Hillary Clinton campaign is dealing with a quickly exploding controversy. WSBT News has received dozens of emails about a YouTube video that shows a high level Clinton campaign advisor allegedly making degrading remarks about people from Indiana.

In the video from 1992, Mickey Kantor, who was an advisor to former President Bill Clinton’s 1992 campaign and the commerce secretary when Clinton was president, says it doesn’t matter whether Clinton wins Indiana. He then appears to make comments about Hoosiers at large.

As for Wright, I think it's true that he's a wacko, although of course he's right about many many things; I think it's regrettable that Obama never pulled together a cohesive narrative - one day he's the crazy uncle and doesn't get invited to the kickoff; the next day he's stuck in the past and Obama never heard his crazier views; the third day he's done with him (and Wright had already said all of the crazy things before. the only thing he hadn't said was that Obama was just being a politician).

I think it's fair to doubt his explanations, nobody's making up anything, so I think it's totally unlike the Kantor story. Of course you think it's not a legitimate topic, but many disagree. As to the Wright story's importance to me, it wouldn't be much except that Obama has a thin record and is running mostly on being something new and pure. The Wright issue, which I knew about long ago, but much more importantly, his disingenuous handling of it, was among one of the things that proved to me that Obama was just another centrist politician, no better than Clinton in stances and leadership, but much worse in other areas.

I'm not saying it's right. It probably is an altered vid for all I know, but after fingergate, Rev. Wright and all the other NON-SENSE thrown at Barack, it's nice to see the other side get a taste.

Remarkable timing too. This breaks in Indiana today. Then there's the weekend where people don't pay attention to the news as much. It will fester. By the time Monday rolls around and the word spreads that this was illegitimate, damage is already done. Next day is primary day.

Documentary’s director tells Web site his film was doctored.

Someone doctored a YouTube video clip purporting to show a former adviser to Bill Clinton making disparaging remarks about Hoosiers, Sen. Hillary Clinton’s campaign said Friday.

The Tribune has been inundated with e-mails linking to the video early Friday. The paper also is fielding phone calls from angry voters in other states.

In the video, Mickey Kantor, an adviser to Bill Clinton’s 1992 campaign and Secretary of Commerce during Clinton’s presidency, appears to say it doesn’t matter whether the then-governor wins Indiana.

He then appears to make comments about Hoosiers at large, including the use of a racial epithet.

But the clip, which is allegedly from a 1993 documentary called "The War Room," is a fake, said Jonathan Swain, spokesman for Hoosiers for Hillary.

The campaign points to a posting on the Web site Politico.com, quoting documentary director D.A. Pennebaker saying Kantor never said those words.

In the clip, it appears Kantor is shown saying "Those people are sh--."

In actuality, Kantor was referring to staff in the Bush White House, saying they were probably "sh--ing" because Ross Perot was holding strong numbers in the 1992 election, Pennebaker told Politico.com
