He does look like an appealing kind of guy.

Julie Weed | July 11, 2004
On Sunday, July 11th, I accompanied Al to a meet and greet at the Lake Monticello home of Diane and Mory Sahr. There were about 30 people in attendance, most from Lake community, which is overwhelmingly Republican. It felt good to know that we Democrats aren't alone out there, and we greeted each other eagerly! The event served Al's Mountain Cove wine and Al was staffed by his daughter, so the participants got to see a bit of Al's family/home life. However, once Al started talking, his vision and
his concerns took over.
The energy in the room was palpable as Al discussed his background, his reasons for running, and the things he hoped to accomplish. There were gasps of concern when he showed off his new prop, a map of Virginia showing just how large the 5th district really is.
There were mutters of disbelief when Al described in detail how little Virgil Jr. has accomplished during his time in Congress. And, best of all, there were quiet cheers of excitement when Al outlined his goals for health care, jobs, education, and the role of the military during and after this war."
