How big or little of a terrorist attack will it take for the nation to
rally around Bush - again.

I think just a small, harmless "attack" will do just the trick. Scare people to death - just a little anthrax mailing should do it. I think everybody - including me - have thought some big, terrible calamity would have to happen, and Bush would declare martial law and postpone the election - indefinitely.

The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced it will be just a itty, bitty attack. It will have to be timed correctly - not too far ahead of the elections - folks might turn on Bush - just the right time - to make everybody scared and think they better stick with the status quo. Walla - mission accomplished.

2. apparently, people would rally around bush even if OBL arranged for .....
one of those sky-writing planes to write across the sky, "Hi george, I just wanted to thank you for getting your troops out of Afghanistan and into Iraq!".

9. I agree. A portion of the country is just waiting for something to happen
to give them an excuse to jump on the Bush bandwagon. Anything will do. And the Repubs will do their best to provide it.

3. IMHO
Just an bomb in a shopping mall or a wallmart would do the trick. Close down much of commerce in the country as well.

4. I think it'll be about the marketing.
The Bush Administration knows all about marketing.

A few well-placed letters full of anthrax, killing a handful of people, and you could have the whole country scared for their lives. Meanwhile, thousands die every day from lack of medical care - for example - and nobody gives a fuck.

It's all in the marketing. Lord knows the Bush Administration will milk any attack for all it's worth.

5. It could also look bad for the Bush Administration*
Because Republicans often point to his "zero terrorist attacks in the US since 9/11" as a measure of the "success" of his homeland security agenda.

I wouldn't expect a lot of "on the fence" people (who are questioning whether the world is a safer place after all these military conquests) to see a second terrorist attack in a 4 year period as a reason to keep the status quo.

I really think the swing voters and left are much more educated now then they were at the time of 9/11. (a good chunk of them must have been naive at the time... in order to explain those approval ratings).

6. yes, my thoughts, too.....
I think another attack would show that Bush is weak on defense here at home ESPECIALLY since he and his cronies are forever saying "no attacks on America since 9/11." Sooner or later people get TIRED of playing boy cries WOLF games and the raising and lowering of the code yellow, code orange and offering no credible intelligence has gone way too far.

7. Another attack would make Bush look weak!
If there's another attack, I'm going to be pretty damn pissed that he spent all that money needlessly in Iraq instead of securing our borders! It's unbelievable that there could be suitcases of small nukes in this country. What have they been doing for crying out loud!

8. It would make him look weak if Democrats are strong
And hammer Bushco for their national security failures. If they roll over and go along with the panic that the whore media will be spreading we are all fucked.
