Kerry actually doing something about vote theft!!

Hooray! Read this. It is as much as I could hope for from this candidate, instead of "trusting the system" like every other hapless Democrat for the last 100 years, Kerry is actually doing something about it before the election. Good show!

"This time, Kerry aides say, they are recruiting not only specialists in election law who work in small law firms or alone, but also litigators at large firms in every state who have the resources and office space to support a long-term, large-scale and pro bono recount operation.

"We don't want a situation where we wake up the next day and are scrambling to think of what our legal team looks like," Mr. Elias said.

The Kerry campaign has already enlisted lead lawyers in all 50 states, and those lawyers are recruiting lawyers at the county and the precinct level.

"It's our intention to have lawyers in one fashion or another covering all of Iowa's 99 counties," said Brent Appel, the Kerry lawyer in Des Moines."

3. The DNC should have been prepared for this and not wait until Kerry

comes along to try to prevent another theft of the election. How many stories have we read about the Diebold machines failing during the 2002 elections? How about the stories coming out of Florida of unreliable touch screen voting machines and "felon" lists with wrong information?

I am happy that Kerry is doing what must be done for the sake of voting rights, but I think the DNC should have been more proactive about this long ago.

And please, let's get better lawyers than the ones Gore had in 2000!

6. This is great, but what about the 15 FL counties using touchscreen voting?

This is what concerns me. They have no paper trail, and the legislature passed a law making this legal--that is no recount can be done or required from electronic voting machines!

People who live in these 15 counties need to vote absentee rather than accept that the results from these machines will not be tampered with.

These counties are: Broward, Charlotte, Collier, Hillsborough, Indian River, Lake, Lee, Martin, Miami-Dade, Nassau, Palm Beach, Pasco, Pinellas, Sarasota, Sumter

Perhaps, if they are inundated with requests, they will consider leasing optical scan machines whose results are printed out at the precinct before they are transmited via modem to the election supervisors.

It looks as if neither Rush Holt's or Bob Graham's bills are going anywhere in the Republican controlled Congress, so the Democrats must begin to take action now to ensure our votes will be counted.

13. Kerry said he was going to do this in Florida...

Several months ago. He was in south Florida putting togetther a team of legal experxt to watch the election and be prepares to fight any improprities they detect even before the election. Any plans to chage ballots or techniques or to change anthing in the stat of Florida is being watched, many of thmem from law firms that were active in calling for the impeachement of Richard Nixon in the 1970's. He has some of the best legal people watching trhis stuff like a hawk, at least in Florida.

15. This is a brilliant move and I bet the republicans are panicking and

scrambling around trying to figure out what the ramifications of this move are (and there are lots of them), and how to counter them. But now they don't have much time before the election. They're screwed.
