Had this sitting in my inbox, sent at 6:45 a.m. ET:
Hi, I'm Ginny Schrader. I have received almost $20,000 since yesterday afternoon. I am thrilled and humbled by your enthusiasm and generosity. I am staying in this race. No one has asked me to step aside and I would not step aside. I won my primary, I gave up my job to be the spokesperson for my District. We need real people in Washington asking the tough questions. I will be in Washington asking the tough questions.

Some people don't understand that the time of the career politician is over. We need real people who will fight for us all without being afraid. Let's do it together. Thank you so much.

Lavoisier1794 notes in a diary that a staffer told them that the Schrader campaign was raising money at a $3,000/hour clip today.

But what struck me yesterday when I spoke to Schrader wasn't so much excitement over the money (which is a necessary evil), but the excitement of a candidate who was finally being taken seriously.

Schrader was relegated to "sacrificial lamb" even though she never considered herself that. It's a district where the demographics favor Democrats (Gore won 51-46, Rendell won 65-35), but the seat was held by an extremely popular long-term incumbent. Furthermore, PA, despite being gerrymandered to death by the GOP, has the fortune of hosting at least three solid pickup opportunities as well as one threatened Democratic seat.

Suddenly, Schrader is in a new class -- running in an open seat in a district with favorable demographics. And people suddenly care about her race. She's relevant. And that, more than any money that she raises, was probably the best part of her day.

* A Challenge. (none / 0)

She's a serious candidate now, but will she have serious money? To be frank, $100k is not serious money for a Congressional race .. it's kinda serious money, but not really serious money. And we're going to need really serious money soon, the kind of money that can afford TV ad buys.

So here's my challenge:

Can we raise one million dollars for Ginny before the convention starts? We have six days; $3000 an hour will get her a half million. Can we double that?

If we can do that, then we will position this candidate, financially, as the likely winner. After that, it's up to her.

Are we up to this?

DU: I only had $10 to give, but every bit helps! Ohio has 3 House seats that are withing the grasp of the Dems, and Ginny is one of them--but without our help, she won't be able to do it.
But she does have our help, and she can win!
