1. DK , Howard Dean, and John Conyers could establish a powerful
unified progressive base Dem organization in the future.

I hope they do.

6. Progressive Democrats of America (PDA)
New Political Organization to be Launched in Boston: Progressive Democrats of America

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 19, 2004

Washington, D.C.: A new political organization will be officially launched next week in Boston, at the conclusion of the Democratic National Convention.

The group, Progressive Democrats of America (PDA), will reflect a broad desire by many within the Democratic Party to champion progressive issues, along with working to defeat President George Bush. PDA has already won the support of well-known activists and political figures such as Tom Hayden, and actors Ed Asner and Mimi Kennedy.

“The Democratic Party needs our help to regain its soul,” said Kennedy, who has been a supporter of grassroots efforts. “If this is to be the party of peace, of universal, single payer healthcare, of fair trade, then it needs people to speak out on those issues.” PDA will work to mobilize supporters within the Democratic Party on behalf of progressive office holders, including public servants and Democratic Party officials.

“There are many progressives, newly energized by the Dean and Kucinich campaigns, who are also new to the Democratic Party. We’re going to do the hard work of integrating them into the party and shifting the balance of power in the progressive direction,” adds Charles Lenchner, acting director of PDA.

Many newly established grassroots organizations who have sprung up in recent months – in the wake of the Howard Dean and Congressman Dennis Kucinich campaigns – are working together to ensure a Republican defeat and to empower grassroots efforts.

“Our strategy is to work with the grassroots movement and with other groups established in the wake of the Dean and Kucinich campaigns,” says Kevin Spidel, former field director for the Kucinich for Campaign. Spidel will serve as the field director for PDA.

"Our goal is to win back the presidency from the Republicans," says Spidel, "and also to wrest the Democratic Party from the free trading, Iraqinvading, Patriot Act supporting leadership it has now," PDA will campaign to transform the Democratic Party and resurrect the spirits of Theodore Roosevelt and Kennedy.

A number of groups have signed on as endorsers, including: Progressive Vote, Citizens for Legitimate Government, WeCount.org, Grassroots for America, Latinos for America, Rapid Response Network, Oklahoma Grassroots Campaign, DIY Politics, Punks for Democracy, Grassroots for Democracy, Oklahoma Grassroots Campaign, Latinos for Americaand Educators for Democracy.

These groups – and others – will meet on Thursday, July 29, for an event titled: “Building the Progressive Wing of the Democratic Party.” It will be held at RoxburyCommunity College.

This ‘progressive convention’ will feature talks and panel discussions with speakers representing the diversity of our movement.
This includes individuals such as: Gov. Howard Dean (D-Vermont); Cynthia Peters, Fund the Dream DNC Coalition; Representative Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio); Representative John Conyers (D-Michigan); Representative Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Illinois) (invited); Doris "Granny D" Haddock, Senatorial Candidate (D- New Hampshire); Reverend Jesse Jackson, Executive Director Rainbow/Push Coalition (invited); Dr. James Zogby, Founder and President of the Arab American Institute; Marianne Williamson, Global Renaissance (invited); Kevin Spidel, Progressive Vote; Boston Councilman
Chuck Turner (District 7). Other names will be announced shortly.

PDA supporters and members will also meet with grassroots organizations from around the country in Washington, D.C. on August 14-15th, to draft plans for strengthening Democratic resolve in supporting universal, single-payer health care, fair trade, human rights, and an end to the occupation of Iraq.

With Ralph Nader still commanding approximately three to six percent nationwide in most polls, many observers are concerned about a backlash from anti-war voters left out by the Kerry campaign.

Lu Bauer, an emerging leader in the Maine Democratic Party summed up some issues PDA will work towards. “While there are some efforts to win those voters back, they have not emerged from within the anti-war, progressive camp. This time around, it will take former Nadervoters to win over real progressives and help defeat Bush. Kerry can’t do it, because his position on the war remains out of sync with most progressive voters, let alone with early and strong opponents of the invasion of Iraq.”

3. Does this mean they won't speak at the Dem. Convention?
I heard all the Dem candidates sould be at the Dem Convention next week, and maybe I just assumed it, but I thought they would all have at least a short speech.

What is this Summit compared to the Convention?

5. I wish
Kuchinich was where Kerry is.

Kerry is the corporate pick.
When dean's career died because of the hyped up"whoop" making him appear "abnormal" to spook the stupid...Right before Dean was set up as"unstable" he threatened the corporate stranglehold on the media and they trashed him.The media does not give Kuchinich air time and show him in unflattering ways because he scares the crap outta the rich bullies.Kuchinich is progressive, and the right wing controlled everything wants him silent, and the stupid Dem's sell out on their souls on a media created unpopularity myth and go centrist with a guy that has no enthusiasm or daring or backbone AGAIN.
And Kerry was the choice left.I felt ill.

Kuchinich should be our guy,but no too many are convinced of some very silly bullshit, and so they suck up to the center(recipe for failure)(playing into the hands of the right wing again)
Because we are dumb enough,or manipulated enough to believe nobody will vote for Kuchinich Our only alternative is .. MUST vote for Kerry or be DOOMED with bush. Where the hell did that "meme" come from?
The Media that's who.The media that is right wing controlled and wants THEIR pick picked.Ever hear of Neuro Linguistics and marketing strategy? Well we have just been manipulated out of holding on to our own self interests! Don'tcha get it people?
The democrats have been psychologically maneuvered into NOT voting for a real candidate that has their interests at heart AGAIN.
I don't cheerlead for Kerry because to me he is nearly a republican anyways.I know people here want me to not say that and all,but I don't sit well with Kerry.
He has no guts to stand up to these vicious bully republicans, and he's not clear enough about getting OUT of Iraq. The only thing going for Kerry is he ain't a fundamentalist nut case butt sucker.I fear if we elect Kerry we will be too compromised to do what needs to be done to get the bullies OUT of power.Kerry is playing "nice" and the opponents we are up against are not nice at all.Kuchinich is not afraid of corporations,or bullies..but Kerry is. Kerry compromises with right wing bullies.

I want to vote for Kucinich,BUT I fear my fellow Dem's are too, brainwashed, duped and scared to do anything but what they are told to do,Vote for Kerry..
My vote is still undecided. And truthfully my vote may not even count if Maryland gets no receipts with out vote machines.Kuchinich had the BALLS to bring up the voting machine issue before any candidate DARED go there. Kerry should be making damn sure his votes will be counted, but no,he's too busy sucking up to this mythic non existing center that cannot exist in a sharply divided nation.

I don't want 4 more years of Bush,I don't want another 30 seconds of his sorry ass..I also don't want my candidate to compromise with a rouge right wing 's demands .When the right wing is so diseased it needs to be amputated to save this country we need someone willing to risk a little blood.Kerry will change next to NOTHING I fear. I think Kerry will ignore and placate the rot in the government so it will continue. Meanwhile we'll just be given some aspirin and a few bones to shut us up as Kerry hopes this rotten wing just falls off one day,not noticing it is infecting the heart of this Country and turning it into a cancer to the rest of this world..
Kerry is scared to be a radical. His past ain't here now. Being a radical and unashamed of it is what you gotta do to counter radical bullies pulling'normal' cards to shut you up.,otherwise they'll always get their way by bullying and intimidation, rewriting law,and manipulating the dumb as rocks and scared public.

I don't think Kerry has the radical strength ,uncompromising principals and cleverness required to deal with undoing the damage to the country and the emotional minds of America done by these entrenched rich systematized Machiavellian right wing bullies wanting to control the world.

Kuchinich can fight and not be ashamed to say things that upset,he isn't concerned with his image over his progressive principals.

Kerry won't fight these bullies because he's afraid of looking radical to this mythic center and the media manipulates whatever he says.He is the corporate pick picked out for us.WAKE UP!
.
Is Ann Colter or Hannity scared of looking extreme?

And the Dem's again enable the bullies and go for a center that is not there so the progressive agenda will fail..

We will not get many more chances to undo the sick things that are out of control in this country before it tries to take control away from us all. This problem is not just with republicans anymore. It is with US.

Thanks for all the hard work for ProgressiveVote! We really appreciate it. I know of a rather large MN contingent going to Boston (unfortunately I won't be in it), but it will be one hell of a progressive gathering!!!

14. What is so progressive about Dean?
Only one thing comes to mind: Iraq. Then again, Pat Buchanan, the arch religious conservative, opposed that too.
