1. No
I think that
1. Most Congresspeople know better.
2. Bush would never sign it, and I can hardly believe Congress getting 2/3 to override the veto.
3. The "holiday" would be after the general election when there would be less of an impact from it.

3. But would you have said some of the same things about printing up money
and giving it away to anybody who files a tax return?

4. To some extent
I find the "stimulus check" the same ploy. It is political pandering to try to leave Bush's legacy a little better than what it was going to be when he left. The check will do very little. $600 isn't a huge chunk of money. Granted, it will provide immediate relief for some families. Those who need it will use it, and that money will end up in the corporation's pockets. It is simply a sly way of giving free money to businesses. Those who don't need the money will invest it, or use it on luxuries. And regardless, it ends up in the hands of big business again.

5. I think several in congress would have joined the bandwagon
if so much discussion had not ensued following Obama's defection. On face value, without knowing the facts, an $.18/gallon savings would be attractive to most voters. I think many of the congress would fear repercussions if they voted against it. I'm not sure bush would have vetoed it - it IS a tax cut and perhaps he'd see it as helping his image.

As it stands today, it will not pass - it has been exposed for what it is: a gimmick.

Go Obama!

7. I can envision a group of Hillary supporters teaming up with
a group of McCain supporters to run this thing up the pole.
